Hi! I just found this site and think it's absolutely wonderful! I am in the process on working on my family history and thought I'd post here and see if anyone here could help me.
My ggrandfather is Giuseppe (Joe) Piazza, bor 4 JUl 1889 in Castellammare Del Golfo, Italy and married Francesca Graffagnino 19 JUN 1914 in Louisiana. We have her family's information thanks to the Graffagnino website. We know Giuseppe's father was Martino Piazza and only know he died before 1914 because he was listed as deceased on the marriage certificate. We knew his mother's name was Antoinette or thought that was it until a cousin found the baptism record and had her listed on there as Antonina Graffagnino. Apparantly Giuseppe came to LA and stayed with the Graffagninos and then ended up marrying one of them and some brother in the family got all mad and dressed in black and said he was dead to them. So now I'm trying to find any information on his parents, dates of birth and death and places and parents names and I'm not sure how or where to go about looking for these things. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
On the marriage license of Joe Piazza and Frances Graffagnino his mom's name was recorded ans Mrs Geneva Piazza (although they misspelled it Pizza), so I don't know what that means either.
The following is available for you to research on microfilm at the Lds library, a wonderful source of information!!
Registri dello stato civile, 1820-1910 Castellammare del Golfo (Trapani). Ufficio dello stato civile
Registri ecclesiastici, 1616-1910 Chiesa cattolica. Maria Santissima del Soccorso (Castellammare del Golfo, Trapani)
Registri ecclesiastici, 1865-1910 Chiesa cattolica. San Antonio di Padova (Castellammare del Golfo, Trapani)
Riveli di beni e anime, Castellammare del Golfo (Trapani), 1594-1811 Sicilia. Deputazioni del Regno
Going through the microfilm you can find birth, marriage and death records for your family. On Giuseppe's birth record will be the names of his parents. Women are always recorded using their maiden names on Italian records. With this informaiton you can trace the families backwards.
