More Help Please

Postby February » 28 Jan 2014, 23:10

I’d like to thank all the kind folks on the forum who have helped so generously. I’ve been investigating only one branch of my family, and came to a point where I needed Italian records to proceed. It seemed like an extremely difficult undertaking, as my Italian language skills are very basic.

Having Marty give me the request template, address and e-mail address for my grandmother’s home town of Angri made sending for her Italian birth record do-able. I’m very grateful – and am back asking for more help! I’ve been energized into researching the rest of the family, and would greatly appreciate addresses (and if available e-mail addresses) for other towns that should have family birth records:

Sant’Egidio del Monte Albino, Salerno, Campania

Isernia, Isernia, Molise

Conca Casale, Isernia, Molise

The people on this web site are wonderful! Thanks again for all the help.

My grandmother always told me that her father came from Conca Casale. I recently found her father's naturalization papers and he lists Pozzilli, Italy as his "Country of birth or allegiance". I've come across several instances of people mis-remembering things, and I figured that my grandmother was mistaken. But just now, while looking for her older brother's immigration papers, I came across a 1907 ship manifest listing "Conca Casale Pozzillo Camp." as the "address of nearest relative or friend in country whence alien came". I checked a map and Pozzilli and Conca Casale seem to be quite a distance apart. Does anyone know why it would be listed like this?

Thanks for any help.

According to some info I could find in Internet (but not completely sure), Conca Casale was a "frazione" of the Commune of Pozzilli until 1911. They are about 13 km far from each other.

Pippo, you are correct. Conca Casale became an independent comune on July 13 1911 (law n.667) see: http://augusto.digitpa.gov.it/gazzette/ ... 1911163_PM

Thank you both so much.

I'm assuming that old records, prior to 1911 would still be in in Pozzilli. If this is correct, could someone please give me an address to write (or e-mail) for birth records?

Thank you.
