Hello Everyone

I've just started doing our Family Tree and have hit a snag trying to locate other relatives of mine with the surname ZEPPELLINI. Can anyone provide any information?

With many thanks in advance

Are you trying to locate your relatives in Italy? Do you know where did your family come from?
According to the telephon directories the surname ZEPPELLINI is quite rare and concentrated in the province of Mantova in Lombardy.
Good luck!

Hi Marco
Yes, sorry about that - I was a bit vague!

I am in Australia and trying to locate information about relatives that yes, came from Mantova. Do you have a link to that telephone directory please? Are you saying there are actually ZEPPELLINI names listed?!!! Oh my!!

I have managed to go back only to my grandparents through my mother but her details of my father's family are sketchy. I believe there are also ZEPPELLINI's in Brazil and France but have yet to locate the French relatives.

With many thanks

Hi Toni,

The Family History Center had microfilm for the town of Mantova if you are looking to trace your ancestors back. The microfilm costs about $3.50 a roll depending on your location.

Here is the link for the film numbers.

Here's the link to locate the nearest Family History Center

Here is the link for the Infobel.com which is the telephone directory that you asked about above.

I wish you luck with your search.

The white pages site is http://www.paginebianche.it/
Enter the name in the field cognome and the place in the field "dove".
Note that if you enter Mantova then only the town is searched, you have to enter MN (code of the province) to get the listing from all the towns in the province (you get 10 Zeppellini, by the way).

good luck!

Hi Toni,

In case you are not aware of this, you can search the Australian Records Archive online. I found a few records for the surname Zeppellini. One was a prisoner of war. http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html

The Australian archives are excellent!

If a person of interest was an Italian Prisoner of War, WW2, you could maybe even locate his picture in a group photo.

Hi Toni,

I did some checking using alternative spellings and found a Zepellini in the LDS genealogy files from San Benedetto, Mantova. Also, there is a Zeppelini who went to Matao, Sao Paolo, Brazil.

There were a number of Zeppellinis that went to the U.S. Most show their town of origin as Signatico or Corniglio which are both in the province of Parma, Emilia Romagna. Looking at a map, Mantova, (also spelled Mantua, [the Celtic version] ) and Signatico and Corniglio are not that far apart. There may be a family connection. http://www.ellisisland.org

Also, the LDS website lists available church and civil records which can be viewed at any one of their Family History Centers. There are about 100 locations throughout Australia. http://www.familysearch.org

With a little luck and effort, you should be able to trace your family back at least 4-5 generations.

Good luck, ... Jay

Thanks so much for that Jay and mfjp. I haven't been back here for a days due to work but on my days off tomorrow I'll have a major scout around those places you guys mentioned. I did manage to find several zeppellini's in brazil which is so exciting but haven't had a chance to do anything about it yet. I think I may find them and then backtrack back to my granddad and see what I can work out. Again, thanks so much,
Toni
