Please, help Garcea/Procopio family (Stefanaconi, Calabria)

Postby deboracosta » 09 Feb 2014, 08:27

Hi

My grandmother's parents were Nicola Garcea and Maria Grazia Procopio and I believe they were born in Stefanaconi, Calabria. They both died pretty young when their two daughters (Maria Teresa and Anunciata) were less than 5 years old.
I really would like to find out more information about my ancestors from this side of the family. I have tried different web-sites with no luck.
Can anybody help me, please?
Thank you very much

Hi suanj, Joannsalvo and adelfio (Marty)

Thank you very much for responding to my request so quickly and for all of your help.
Sorry I forgot to mention that my grandmother and her two boys moved to Brazil to join my grandpa in 1953. My grandpa, Antonino Costa, moved to Brazil in 1951.
Yes Marty, this is my grandmother with my father (Nicola) and my uncle (Nazzareno). My husband found that document a couple days ago, but it took us a long time to find it and you did pretty quickly (even without all the information we had!). Awesome job!
I talked to my father today and, unfortunately, we don't know the year of birth or death of neither Maria Grazia Procopio or Nicola Garcea. My grandmother was born on 14 Nov. 1925 and she was around 5 years old when her mother died. Her father died 2-4 years later and she and her sister were raised by an aunt. This is what my father can remember and, if he is right, I would have to search death records from 1928-1934 (I'm giving a little margin for error). Since Stefanaconi had less than 3000 people at that time, I'm assuming search through the death records will be a little time consuming, but doable, right?
Joannsalvo, thank you for showing me the path to search through the microfilms. Do you think I would have a chance to find what I want without having a specific date of birth or death?
There is a Family History Center here in the city where I live (Des Moines, Iowa, USA) and I'm planning to go there to see if I can find more information.
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.
