Itri microfilm records missing indexes

Postby Amansolillo » 23 Feb 2014, 04:29

Hello. I occasionally go to my local Family History Center to view records from Itri. I noticed that many of the films are missing indexes, and very often, only a few years within those films have indexes. It is often very arduous to find people I am looking for without the indexes. Does anyone know why most of the films are missing indexes and if there is any way that the indexes can be retrieved? Would I need to write to Itri? Thanks.

In my experience I have found many of the smaller towns did not index their books, then or later. It is possible of course that Itri made its own indexes years later for their own use but I doubt they would send you copies! If they did create their own indexes then someone would have to go there and they may be permitted to copy them.
Everything in Italy depends on the person's interpretation of the law.
