there's a thread on another forum which appears to be related to this ancestry

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=682477.0

Here are some towns where the Pacella surname is found. I already checked the 1870-1871 birth records for Muro Lucano, as I know the Pacella surname is very common there, but no Trifonio. I also have acquaintances whose Pacella ancestor married in Avigliano, but that person was born in a hamlet or frazione of the town of Atella, according to the Avigliano marriage record, but I can't find that person's birth record among the Atella records.

Pacella Ateleta L'Aquila (AQ) Abruzzo 67030
Pacella Avigliano Potenza (PZ) Basilicata 85021
Pacella Sgurgola Frosinone (FR) Lazio 03010
Pacella Castel Di Ieri L'Aquila (AQ) Abruzzo 67020
Pacella Montemilone Potenza (PZ) Basilicata 85020
Pacella Pacentro L'Aquila (AQ) Abruzzo 67030
Pacella Quadri Chieti (CH) Abruzzo 66040
Pacella Pagani Salerno (SA) Campania 84016
Pacella Terracina Latina (LT) Lazio 04019
Pacella Atella Potenza (PZ) Basilicata 85020
Pacella Muro Lucano Potenza (PZ) Basilicata 85054
Pacella Nocera Inferiore Salerno (SA) Campania 84014

You're welcome, Robin. Some of the towns I listed above have online records at www.familysearch.org under the category of Continental Europe and then Italy. You might want to look through those, if you have the time. It's a slow process, but may help you find the town of birth for your Pacella. Another thing you might try to find the town is to use his unusual first name to do so. Although he may have been named for a relative, there is a San Trifone, Saint Trifone, who is the patron saint of some towns. Often individuals in a town, if not named for a relative, are named for the town's patron saint. Hope you have success trying one of these.

BTW, I also posted the link to the other thread to prevent volunteers on this website from duplicating information you or your relatives may already have.

I found that peoples with name similar: Trifone Pacelli ( no Trifonio Pacella) was born in Onano (currently: in Viterbo province) and I found that some Pacelli/Pacella born in Onano came in Canada, ports of departure: Liverpool and Glasgow....
just a suggestion,

Suanj's seems to be a good suggestion...San Trifone is the patron saint of Onano.
Even though names of children seem to suggest a southern origin (expecially Trofimena, peculiar of Amalfi coast and Salerno).
So, may be Francesca was from there.
Did they live in the USA, or where?
