SURNAME TORE (TORRE)

Post by mariatrd »

My husbantds grandfather was from Italy. I don't know where? They say around Rome but unsure. He did not tell his family very much of his life. He wrote his name Domnick Tore but the family changed the name to Torre. I would love to find out more about his name to help me search more about who he was. Can anyone help.

Are you quite certain about the Tore spelling? Today, the vast majority of Tore's reside on the island of Sardegna; see http://www.gens.info/italia/it/turismo- ... 1kFSlc3esI

Torre is a far more common surname: http://www.gens.info/italia/it/turismo- ... 1kFo1c3esI

I see that you are linked to the Torre family. My maiden surname is Torre, and I have been trying to further my research. I thought I would share my relation to Torre in case there might be a link: My grandfather was Pietro Giovanni Torre (b. 1943 in Pretoria, Gauteng, SA). My great-grandfather was Philippus Stefanus Torre (b. 1917, I think also in SA), and my great-great-grandfather was Pietro Torra (b. 1871 in Italy). If it wasn't a spelling error, the surname seems to have changed from Torra to Torre.
