I am having difficulty researching my mothers maiden name; VITULANO because it is also the name of a city or town. I do know my grandparents lived in Manfredonia, Foggia, Puglia because it is listed on my grandfathers WWII draft records and my grandmothers ship manifest. My grandfathers name was Salvatore Pasquale Vitulano dob 1, Jan 1894 and my grandmother Annina Marie Paglione Vitulano dob 23 Nov 1897. They both immigrated on separate dates to the US. I have all of their US info, but would like to begin researching their lives in Italy including births, marriage, etc... From where they were born and lived previous to immigrating, where would I write to receive this information? This is just the beginning of a long journey researching my mothers family. I have spent the last 10 years researching my fathers from Ireland and it has been very rewarding. Thank you very much for any assistance you can offer. Tomorrow, I will begin to read the information you have on this site about receiving records from Italy.
Welcome to IG website There are limited records of Manfredonia online so you might have to order films from Family History Library Registri dello stato civile di Manfredonia (Foggia), 1809-1900 Births, marriages, deaths, marriage banns, miscellaneous documents, marriage documents, citizenship records. Includes indexes. For Salvatore Pasquale Vitulano and Annamaria Paglione you would need the (birth) Nati 1884-1897 Family History Library film #1805768 After looking a your tree on ancestry at the shipmanifest of Annamaria Paglione on the 2nd page it says her husbands name is Venturo Vitulano Find a Family History Library https://familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator
Thank you Adelfio Goodness, I must be mistaken on the ships manifest then, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Thank you for the links as well as the other information. This is where I will begin my research.
