Here's a birth record for Pasqualina Fasano born on April 5, 1901 (record is dated the 6th) in the house on via Pisciarelli. It appears from this record that the birth record that Marty found for Nicola is the correct one, as in this record the father is Nicola Fasano of Giovanni Orazio, age 34, day laborer. His wife Anna Petito was a peasant/farmer living with her husband. Record #46.

We don't know if Nicola Fasano had any siblings in the USA. I'm working to locate the siblings of Anthony. You've both been so much help to me.

Pasquale --- this is amazing. No record of him coming with his mother in 1913, but Catherine eldest sister of Anthony (we think she was born 1893 and apparently came to USA after her father, but before her mother and the other children) named her 1st child, Pasquale (born in USA 1917). Catherine's husband was Dominick Antonelli. We know this by the census record as they were living Nicholas and Anna in the 1920 census

Nicola Fasano of Giovanni Orazio,

Help me to understand why Orazio is there for Giovanni. Wouldn't Giovanni's name be Fasano as well?

here's the birth record of Giuseppe Fasano dated March 20, 1898, birth on the 19th in the house on via Pisciarelli. Nicola was 32, a day laborer. His wife, Anna Petito was a peasant/farmer living with him. There are two links below. The first shows the marriage of Giuseppe Fasano to Rosa Pagnotta of Lioni, the daughter of Angelo Pagnotta and deceased Donata Fierro.

I'll be back to answer your question about the Orazio name. I don't want to lose this.

That record reads "Nicola Fasano of Giovanni Orazio." Orazio is the father's middle name. It is understood that his surname is also Fasano, which is simply not repeated in this section of the record. So Nicola's father was Giovanni Orazio Fasano.

Here are the index image numbers for births starting in 1891.,

1891-image 1509 of 3033. I didn't see any related births in this year.

1892, index image 1628 of 3033. I didn't see any related births in this year.

1893 index image 1731 of 3033, I didn't see any related births in this year.

1894-Giovanni's birth.

1895 index-image 1971 of 3033-I didn't find any related births

1896-index only goes to surnames starting with the letter C. Index image is 2085 of 3033. You will have to go backwards from this image and go record by record to find anyone with the Fasano surname.

1897-index image 2197 of 3033-I checked all records except for Vincenzo record #10-others not related

1898-index 2311 of 3033-Giuseppe's birth record #46 which I have just posted

That's all I can do for now.

Just to clarify for you, the Pasqualina whose birth record I found was female and NOT male.

Here's a birth record # 37 for daughter Giovannina Fasano born on Feb 6, 1890. The record is dated the 9th. Born in the house on via Pisciarelli to Nicola Fasano, age 24, day laborer, and wife Anna Petito, peasant/farmer living with him.

That's what I'm thinking. Here are some more birth index image numbers

1890 image 1389 of 3023
1889 image 123 of 3033
1888 image 1133-no index-you have to go record by record back from this image
1887 index image 993 of 3033-there is a record #92 for a Giovanni Orazio Fasano, the son of Pasquale. So it's possible that the father Pasquale on this record is a brother of your Nicola, but I can't say for sure at this point.
1886-index 864 of 3033-no related Fasano

I looked at the marriages again. I am thinking that if the first child was the Giovannina in 1890, then possible marriage year was 1889. There were only two records for that year, as the other pages are labelled as missing. So, if the record was in 1889, we have no way of knowing. I checked 1888 and the record wasn't there either. I went record by record for 1888 starting backwards from image 2599 of 3014.

I have to recheck to see if there are marriage publications for 1888, 1889, and 1890. If they married in another town, the marriage publications, banns of marriage, would have been published in both towns, but I think I did that late last night and didn't see them.

Erudita

I just rechecked marriage publications for the years 1888 and 1890 and they are not there. The 1889 marriage publications are, unfortunately, missing. I am still leaning toward that being the year of their marriage.

These image # for the indexes are so helpful. Is there some way you could post this for the Forum so that others would always be able to access it? I know the task of looking for the year's index was so daunting when I first looked at those pages.

I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at the records now, and also printed off a listing of translation of months, days of week, and how to figure out the numerals. Also a page which gives occupations. I wanted to be able to further translate each image for the rest of my family.

You've spent so much time on this, and I really do appreciate all you've done.

When I compared the "Anno" at the very beginning top of the page(meaning year) to the name of the wife, I noticed how similar they were. That big swoop for the A looks more like an O but we know that word is anno. Do you think her name might be Anna?
