Postby marymary52 » 24 Jul 2014, 06:30

I found a marriage license NY of FRaneeoco Crucciti ? sp December 16 1900 mothers name Maria Vento.
bride...Dominica MASIANO 25 years old in 1900 father NUNIZIO Maisano and MARIA Gatto . For the bride it said she was born in S Stefano Messina Is this the same as Santa Marghertia Messsina? Most of my findings are from Santa Margarita in Messina. I might have the wrong person:(

Thank you! I was wondering how do you find these names. Do you type the name and then look or do you have to read each page until you find the name?

Santa Margherita is a frazione (subdivision) of the city of Messina. Santo Stefano Medio, aka Santo Stefano Mezzano, is also a frazione of the city of Messina, so these are 2 parts of the same comune (municipality). There is another Santo Stefano in the province of Messina, Santo Stefano di Camastra, but that is a separate comune much further west.

Messina is relatively large and so divided into different quarters, or circoscrizioni. Santa Margherita and Santo Stefano Medio are part of the same circoscrizione, the one furthest south (Circoscrizione I, that is, #1). These subdivisions, though, were different in the 19th century. In fact, the city used to be divided into 14 circoscrizioni, among which was one called Santo Stefano.

There's another frazione of the same circoscrizione called Santa Margherita Marina.
