Background on family of Margherita Zanni of Ruvo

Postby moonmist » 18 Aug 2014, 05:42

I am new to this site and wanted to see if I could find info on my maternal grandmother's parents and great-grandparents. My grandmother, Margherita Zanni was born on June 1, 1901. I think she was born in Ruvo, but am uncertain. Father's last name was Zanni and I don't know his first name; mother died 4 days after she was born. Mother's maiden name was Elodia Pagano. Father remarried. My grandmother went to live as a child with her maternal grandparents in the Ruvo-Bari area and came to the US in around 1924.

Any info on her parents or grandparents, where they may have immigrated from, etc. would be interesting to know. Thanks much!

Here is Margherita's birth record from Ruvo- born on June 1, 1891 in the house at #51 via Cattedrale-

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,348737301

Her father Rocco Zanni was age 28 and a carpenter. Her mother, Antonietta Pagano, the daughter of deceased Antonio Pagano, was age 21. Margherita married Nicola Monno in Trani on June 18, 1927, act #36.

Here's Antonia Pagano's death record. She was born in Ruvo and died in the house at #51 via Cattedrale at the age of 22 on June 22, 1901. Her father was deceased Antonio Pagano and her mother was deceased Filomena Bellocol...(spelling?). She was the wife of Rocco Zanni.

Thanks, Tessa. That was the surname of choice, but for some reason my eyes were playing tricks on me and I just did see all of the letters in the wee hours of the morning.

Yes, happens to me as well. That is why I am happy we have others to take that second look! :-)

Wow! What I thought I knew was way off in several areas. Thank you for the info! Do you know: (1) when she left Italy for America; and (2) any info on Nicola Monno?

The microfilmed records for Trani only go to 1910, so for marriage info for him and Margherita, you would have to contact the town directly

Ufficio Stato Civile
Piano terra Palazzo di Città
Via Tenente Morrico 2
76125 Trani (BT)
Italia

You can use the form below to help you

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/genealo ... ecords.asp

As to when Margherita left Italy, have you tried locating a passenger list for her? where did she settle, as that may indicate which port she entered the country through. If through the port of NY, you can search http://www.ellisislandrecords.org or even better search through http://www.stevemorse.org

If before 1892, you can search http://www.castlegarden.org for NY arrivals

for NY arrivals starting in 1925, you can search the following link
