Help Locating Giuseppi Catalanotto - Corleone

Postby ladominocrna » 24 Sep 2014, 15:00

From his Death Act in 1818 his age was 82. I have gone back to the index and have been unsuccessful. His Marriage Act spells the name Catalanotto and the Death Act is Catalinotto. Thanks

Catalanotto is the spelling that I'm used to seeing, at least in Agrigento province. Are you saying you found his death record from 1818 and an earlier marriage record? How early do Corleone records go? Which index are you referring to?

Are you searching for his baptism record among the online church records? If so, I suggest you check out all of the records for those in the index from 1734 to 1745 who have the surname, spelled either way, regardless of first name. The reason I suggest this is that, if you are searching the index solely by his first name, as it is alphabetized, it is possible you won't find it. My husband has, for an example, an ancestor from another Sicilian town who in later records was referred to only as Melchiorre, plus his surname. I couldn't find him in the index for the church records in his town under the letter M. As it turns out, at baptism he was given the name Baldassare Gaspare Melchiorre plus the surname. In the index, his record was indexed only under the letter B. Sometimes names like this are indexed under all three of the letters by the parish priest. At other times, they aren't. So make sure you check all entries for any child indexed with surname, regardless of the first name listed in the index. Also you might want to check the earlier baptism records as well, in case his age of 82 is off.

His age could easily be off by more than 10 years (younger, at least). What years did you search?

So you searched over the ranges that would've made him between 72 and 84 at death. I'd try later years, too.
