What information do you have about him?
Place/date of birth? etc.

The name Monico is most common in Lombardia and Veneto, but without more information that's all I can say.
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

Just posted the 1920 Census (looks like a different wife, Teresa. Could have been that she died and he remarried? Since Herman was born in 1920... could be she died in childbirth or sometime after?)
I believe TERESA (in 1920 Census) is the mother of your HERMAN.

His name could have been CARMINE Pietromonaco :-)
Her name was probably Concetta...
Do you know if they were married in US or Italy?

I am checking birth registrations in Vinchitura now, there are two in 1887...

EDIT TO ADD:

Is this the WWI Registration Card for the Herman's father in Omaha?
Making date of birth 16 September 1886?

According to what I'm finding, Herman the father was born around 1886. Even if it is Carmine Pietromonaco, there are two Carmine Pietromonaco's born in 1887 alone in Vinchitura. You may need to find the immigration record to know which it is since it will also have the father's (your great-great-grandfather's) name.
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

One of the birth records in Vinchitura has a date of 13 September 1887 (birth on 11th)

Hmmm, if that is the correct date then I'm not sure I can help. The source I'm using for Vinchitura skips from 1885 to 1887. BUT you could easily write a letter, in Italian, to l'Ufficio di Stato Civile in Vinchitura and ask for a copia integrale dell'atto di nascita and give them the exact date, it should be enough for them to send you a scan of the birth certificate if we can't find one online.

I posted the September 1887 record link above because sometimes US records are off by year, but immigrants usually get the month correct :-)

In that record, Carmine's father is Alessandro, son of deceased Giovanni Pietromonaco; and mother is Maria di Sano, daughter of Benedetto...

Thats not really a solid lead, different years, different dates. Considering the name Carmine Pietromonaco seems common in the town, there's no way to know if they are the same. Genealogy can never be based on assumptions. You'll need to try and get the record for the date indicated by the WWII record. If the town says there was no person with that name born in September 1886, then maybe you can start considering errors in records.

When I was doing my own research in the Supino parish records, I found a woman with the same name and year of birth, and fathers name, as my great-great grandmother, but it wasn't her. There were two. Can't just go on guesswork or you inadvertently start looking into someone else's family
