Am I reading these records right?

Postby PurrfectMeow » 03 Dec 2014, 06:14

I've only just started finding records myself and don't really trust myself to interpret them correctly, but I think I found something odd, and I'm hoping for help with it. These two records here (first one a member here kindly helped me find before), second I found on my own recently, and ever since I've been confused. Unless I'm wrong they seem to show the same man, my great great great grandfather Giovanni Maria Picone marrying two different women in the same year. If anyone can tell me if I'm right and if so interpret the dates/names, etc it'd be much appreciated:

Record 1: #52 http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Record 2: #118 http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 9.jpg.html

And this is birth record I have for Giovanni's son my great great grandfather Bartolo, I believe mother is Maria Russo:

Confused also because I would think the numbers would be in order of the marriages, but if that's so the marriage with Maria was first and she clearly didn't pass away if she gave birth to a son in 1856. Just trying to make sure I didn't uncover some polygamy or something like that.

They are two different persons (different age and different parents)

Your Giovanni Maria Picone is #52.
Marriage date July 19 1846 (The left column is the marriage promise, held 11 July. The right column shows the actual marriage, held in the parish church and the transcribed in the civil state books)
Giovan Maria Picone was 21yo, son of Antonino and of Marianna Ortado (sp?)
his wife was Maria Russo, aged 31, born in Lipari, daughter of deceased Giovanni and deceased Concetta La Greca

Bartolo Picone was born Feb 10 1856 to Giovan Maria, aged 30, and to his wife Maria Russo aged 28 (sic!). He was baptized the same day.
