Here is an article from this site about coat of arms, often referred to as a family crest. Do you have reason to believe your family has a crest?

I would recommend you get the book Italian GEnealogical Records by Tafford Cole. Chapter 4 deals with the subject of nobel families and cites serveral reference books for their lineage and coat of arms.

Tafford Cole does make it clear that just because there maybe a capobianco coat of arms or crest, it can not be rightfully claimed by anyone with that surname.

If you can trace your family to the Marquis Capobianco, resident of Carife in the mid 1700s, you might be in luck.

http://www.italyworldclub.com/campania/ ... carife.htm

But, really, any evidence you have that leads you to believe that your family has the heraldic right to a coat of arms should, itself, tell you everything you need to know about that coat of arms.

Hi There,

I know a company in the UK that makes beautiful coats of arms. He uses his information from the following book.

"The arms come from Dizionario Storico Blasonico."

Dizianario Storico Blasonico

DELLE FAMIGLIE NOBILI And NOTABILI ITALIANE Author: G. B. Di Crollalanza Year: 1886-90 Volumes: 3 volumes. More than 18,000 last names. Pages: 1.436 altogether. Description: The "storico-blasonico Dizionario delle famiglie nobili and notabili italiane" is the greater work of heráldica with history of the Italian last names that never has been written. It contains histories and shields of more than 18,000 last names Italian and other origins, but rooted in Italy, ordered alphabetically and with a supplement. At the end of volume III there are 12 leaves with shields drawn to all color. Here are last names quite difficult to find, and that they do not appear in any other armorial.

I hope this helps,
Trish

Hi There,

Genealogy goes backwards. What I mean is that you start with yourself or grandfather and then start filling in the blanks of a Pedigree chart. You would list your grandfather's parents and what information you have on them and keep working backwards. Also, you need documentation for each individual to prove that is one of your ancestors.

Now knowing that, here is the link for the microfilm that the Family History Center has for the town of Carife. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

The film costs about $3.50 a roll depending on your location. On these films are copies of the actual Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors. Please note the films are in Italian.

A good book to get is "A Genelogist's Guide to Discovering Your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson.

Also, here is the link to find the nearest Family History Center.

I hoep this helps,
