Iovine

Postby DiRocco » 16 Jul 2005, 01:41

Good day, I am trying to locate my Grandfather and Great Grandfather following arrivals from Tufo Italy. My Grandfather, Morfi was Born 11 June 1905 He came through Ellis Island but ended up with his father, Michele Iovine in Boston, MA, USA (whom I am also trying to locate, he arrived first). My Grandfather could be listed as any of the following:
Morfi Pasquale Iovine
or Morfi Eovine
or Murphy Eovine
Thank you for your assistance

Hi There,

First, the Family History Center has microfilm that you can rent for about $3.50 a roll depending on your location. The film is copies of the Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors.

Here is the link for the film numbers.

Here is the link to find your nearest Family History Center.

Next on the ship's manifest, Michele is bringing his son, Morfi here to the USA to see his son, Antonio (brother of Morfi). Also, it states Michele left his wife, Rachale behind in Italy.

Here is the information on the ship. I know one of my dear friends on here will post the image for you. :D (thank you)

Name: Morfi Iovine
Arrival Date: 5 Jan 1920
Age: 14 years
Estimated Birth Year: 1906

Ship Name: Cretic
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Antonio Iovine

I hope this helps,
Trish

:D I can't thank you all enough for your work on my behalf. I am somewhat confused, by the manifest because my Grandmothers name was Assunta. However, I will attempt to read the manifest when I have more time. Unfortunately, I am no where near a centre when I can obtain the microfiche. Once again, I thank you most sincerely for your assistance; I am ashamed to say how many hours I have been researching this! Kindest Regards!

 Maria and Trish - thank you so much for all your help. I may be back to you with additional questions - if you don't mind! FYI - I spoke to my mother regarding the "wife" issue - surprise, surprise, my grandfather was married to a woman in Italy before marrying the woman that my family has known as his wife. Very interesting. You would not believe the can of worms opened on this one! Thank you so much for everything. You are so great at the research.
How did you learn everything?
Regards, Paula

How about a library? You can order film from them...

If you call your local library, I am sure they could direct you to a library(hopefully- closer to your home) that has a film reader...

Very interesting. You would not believe the can of worms opened on this one!

Makes research quite interesting... so your Mom already knew?

Hi DiRocco--

I should first apologize: I'm a newcomer to this site, and am not related to the Eovine (or Iovine) family. But by coincidence, I am researching a woman whose life intersected rather tragically with the lives of a Joseph DiRocco and a Pauline DiRocco in Somerville, Massachusetts, in August of 1953. I believe your grandfather, Murphy Eovine, was Joseph's father.

I have a fair amount of information about the sad event in August 1953, and would look forward to chatting with you, if you would like. And I would look forward to learning more about your family, as well, as background for my research.

Please feel free to send a private message to me on this site, if you would like. Again, I apologize for contacting you in this unexpected fashion.

I see this post is more than 10 years old, but I wonder if all Iovine's that come out of Tufo are related. My ancestor was Giacomo Iovine and married an Orsola Luongo from Tufo, had a bunch of kids, then moved to Maine in the early 1900's. Any relation? I know his father was Dominic Iovine but I hit a dead end with that and like to trace them back further and see any siblings/cousins he had.
