Very interesting. Question on naming conventions. Does it make sense that my father Reilly, son of Michele and grandson of Antonio would name me Anthony? And a middle name after him "Reilly"? I believe he was the youngest in the family and I am the only child.

Is Reilly's middle name "Harry" common in Italy?

Any other information on the area that the families come from or when the migration to America occurred?

Your information and effort is immensely appreciated!

the naming convention.:
first son same first name of paternal grandfather
first daughter same first name of paternal grandmother

second son same first name of maternal grandfather
second daughter same first name of maternal grandmother

this convention was respected in old time in Southern Italy , abt to 98%
your Reilly was the last son, so the his first name was free of convention...
but in 1915 census he was named Pasquale..
as I can see the Michele children changed the first names..
seeming that just Albina and George no changed...

abt Reilly... Harry is Enrico in Italy... Reilly first name ... it is the first time that I see it.... in all my genealogic experience.. never knew...I cannot understand what is the equivalent in italian Language.... so it is hard to give a right reply... but I am positive that Reilly Harry is not his christian name...

I believe that Michele DI TOMASO and Antonia MATTICOLA both coming from Isernia town, or from a Commune in Isernia province...
best regards,
suanj

That would follow then that Reilly's older sister Albina (Lena) named her first daughter Antonitta (Sp?) known as Anna. Correct?

Is there any way to determmine when Michele and Antonia migrated from Italy to New York?

Thanks so much for your work. I truly hope that we can connect the pieces and reconcile the names. This is quite exciting.

I found the 1940 census of Albina... the her first daughter was named Antonetta ( Antonietta in italian; meaning: little Antonia) .. in 1920 census the daughter first name was Anna; Albina named so the daughter because her mother (Antonia Matticola Di Tomaso) decesead in 1922...
abt the immigration... I no searched... if I will find I will let you know... best regards,

You are being most helpful and I appreciate the time and effort you are you are putting into this expedition. Since I have no experience in tracing my ancestry this is an exciting project. If we can come to some conclusion as to the roots and current living ancestors I may be would like to come to Italy and see them in person if it was appropriate. Your thoughts on that and how to approach the matter.

Any tidbits of info you can provide from Italy or America to solidify the family relationship would be exciting. Makes me quite sad that I did not attempt this search before all of my relatives passed and I lost touch with the cousins and others...

By the way, I am in Eastern Time Zone (UTC-05:00), what time zone are you in? Do you live near the the family location?

Thank you so much for your efforts.

Hi, my time zone is (UTC+1.00) Amsterdam, Berlino, Berna, Roma, Stoccolma, Vienna (in italian spell) I live in the same region of your ancestors, but far from Isernia, I believe that Isernia town or some Commune very close to Isernia, it could be right birthplace... I cannot friny any ship's manifest.. no of Michele DI TOMASO and no of Antonia MATTICOLI .. hoping better luck nextly...

Greetings suanj

I am still searching. Is there any way to determine if either Michele DI TOMASO or Antonia MATTICOLI had any other relatives migrate to America? Also, any way to track any of Michelel's children in US Census data?

Thanks and hope you are doing well.
