Sacco Family - Brooklyn, NY 1930's

Postby muddyh20 » 13 Feb 2015, 20:38

in the 1960's, my mom discovered that she'd been born Elena Sacco, 5/21/31....her 'mother' provided her with her birth certificate which documented her parents' names, immigrants from Sicily and the story that she'd been one of 9-10 children...too many mouths to feed and she was placed in an orphanage....when she died in 1970, the bc was destroyed.....NY has been a major brick wall in any attempt to acquire her bc.....if anyone might have any info on this family, i'd be eternally grateful!!! thank you!!

If Elena Sacco applied for a Social Security Card using the birth certificate you referenced above, you may be able to find the information about her parents on her SS-5 Application:

The SS-5, or Application for Social Security Number is a great resource for learning more about individuals who died after about 1960, and generally includes the following:

Full name
Full name at birth, including maiden name
Present mailing address
Age at last birthday
Date of birth
Place of birth (city, county, State)
Father's full name
Mother's full name, including maiden name
Sex
Race as indicated by the applicant
Whether the applicant ever applied for Social Security or Railroad Retirement before
Current employer's name and address
Date signed
Applicant's signature

Sorry for the delay in responding.....your comments and assistance are so appreciated and helpful.....i've applied for the Social Security info, and it's been over 4 months since i submitted the application....so frustrating!!! My search continues, and new info, via DNA test connections, suggests that her mother may not have been married...
