Help needed for first timer.

Postby Wimpy » 21 Mar 2015, 00:34

Hi there one and all.
I am trying to develop part of my wife's family tree. She is half Italian and we would dearly love to find relations and ancestors on her mothers side. I have tried to use the library edition of Ancestry.co.uk but without much success.

My mother in law's maiden name is Toppola, we have all her brothers and sisters and their mother and father, but then we have a blank. The family lived in San Pietro a Patierno near Casoria. The father was Agustino Toppola (c.1893-1950) and the mother's maiden name was Emilia Amendola.

I understand that the main source of information are the church/council records. I have tried to search for the region of Campania but can find very few records for the Naples/Casoria area and very few name matches.

Can someone give me a push in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for your time

Rodger

San Pietro a Patierno is the 7th district of Napoli. You will need to write to the Comune di Napoli for birth records for years after 1865 being sure to specify that the district is San Pietro a Patierno and enclosing an addressed envelope and a copy of some photoID. Once you reach 1865 and earlier you can search the microfilms ordered from www.familysearch.org or on line (if they have been uploaded) at http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/en
Happy Hunting.

Welcome to IG website
San Pietro a Patierno is a quarter of the city of Napoli so you would have send for your records there do you have birth years or a marriage year for Agostino Toppola and Emilia Amendola
There are online records of Casoria 1809-1929 on familysearch.org

The pages in family search look very interesting, but clearly I need to find some dates to help me. Sadly we are running out of people to ask.
Thanks for your help and time

First thing you need to do is request Agostino's birth record from Napoli. It should have a notation of his marriage. Once you have that date, request the marriage record. This will give you his wife's age at marriage, her birthplace and her parents names. Then you just keep on going.
