gennaro urgo

Postby kat » 02 Aug 2015, 23:15

I am looking for any information about Gennaro Urgo. He is my great grandfather and I know little about him. What I know is he was born in Italy in 1866 and came to America in 1903. He lived in Queens Ny until his death in 1921.

Gennaro and Anna Urgo had another daughter born 15 Aug 1899. Mary ( or Maria) is my grandmother. When I looked on Ellis Island website I did not see her listed as coming to America with her family in 1903. Is there anyway I can find out when she came here? As a child I was told she came her with her family when she was 6 months old. I now see that the family came in 1903.

This is a possibility.

On the 1903 manifest there is a son Antonio, age 3, birth about 1900. On the 1910 census there isn't an Antonio but a daughter Antoinette; also mother Anna states she had 9 children but only 3 living--Rose, Antoinette and son John born in New York who are on this 1910 census. Your grandmother Maria might be the Antoinette on the 1910 census, possibly born Maria Antonia. I realize that the sex of Antonio/a on the 1903 manifest is male but my grandmother and her sister were both listed as male when they came to the US as infants in 1899.

Who was your grandmother's husband? Did they marry in any of the New York Boroughs?

My grandmother who was called Mary was born 15 Aug 1899 and died 15May 1971. She married Thomas Capurso but I have no date I can guess they were married between 1919 and 1920. I believe they were married in New York, maybe Queens were they raised their family.
