Dual citizenship: necessary documents to find

Postby Pat B » 02 Oct 2015, 21:29

Good afternoon. I am trying to find my grandparents' birth certificates from Messina, Sicily.
I have the naturalization paper for my grandfather, and can easily follow with marriage, death certificates necessary to trace my line. But it seems impossible to locate the birth certificates. My cousin in Italy said it might not be possible because of the earthquake around 1900. Any suggestions?

Birth certs from Messina are online, on 2 different websites (familysearch and antenati). I know that the Messina tribunale (courthouse) had birth records, which must've survived the earthquake, from around 1900 for some of the towns in Messina province since I've downloaded them. (The earthquake was in 1908.) Were they born in the city of Messina or some other town in the province? If in the city of Messina do you know which quarter?
