Hi, I believe that your ancestors don't was born in Naples( Napoli), because on the ship's manifest, Pasqualina maiden name is Chinchiarelli ( or similar spelling) with son Giovanni Catalano 3 old and Carmela daughter 1 old...

Giovanni Catalano

New York, Passenger Lists

Name Giovanni Catalano
Event Type Immigration
Event Date 1891
Event Place New York City, New York, United States
Gender Male
Age 3
Birth Year (Estimated) 1888
Birthplace Italy
Ship Name Victoria

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939V-RMBW-K
well I believe that this record is abt Giovanni Catalano ( John Catalano):

Giovanni Catalano

United States World War I Draft Registration Cards

Name Giovanni Catalano
Event Type Draft Registration
Event Date 1917-1918
Event Place Roxbury City no 12, Massachusetts, United States
Gender Male
Nationality Italy
Birth Date 24 Jul 1887
Birthplace Messina, Italy, Italy

so seeming born in Messina... no Naples... however in this second record abt 1942 WWII draft registration card Naples the data are different, so I don't know what is right:

Nome:
John Cataloni

Data di nascita:
9 Oct 1887 (9 ott 1887)

Luogo di nascita:
Naples, Italy (Italia)

Residenza:
Norfolk, Massachusetts, USA (Stati Uniti)

Appartenenza razziale:
White (Europoide)

your suggestions?
Regards,

Keep in mind that in many American records, the place of birth is mistakenly reported as the port/city they left it from. It comes from a mistranslated of "where did you come from" which Italians often interpreted as "where did you just come from" rather than "what is your town of origin."

So maybe post your source for saying they are born in Naples for suanj to double check for you
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

as a well the maiden name of wife give right trace; Catalano is right spelling and Chincariello also I believe right spelling of Pasqualina maiden name.. so maybe they coming from Montefalcione town, Avellino province, Campania region, and no Naples town that is the capital of Campania region.
The WWI draft registration card abt Giovanni Catalano, maybe could be abt another people ...
In WWII draft registration card, he say Naples as his birthplace, but maybe just because is the most important town of Campania region... the surname Chincariello move the attention towards Avellino area, Montefalcione town more probable, but are just suggestions, we must search more ...

Oh wow, thank you, I will look into all of this. One of my cousins has been doing our genealogy but she has mostly focused on the English side, as for what I know of my great great grandparents is based off their obituaries. I will look into all of this and get back to you. Thank you so much.

The 1900 census is correct, my great grandfather is one of their youngest who was yet to be born at that time. His name was Gardino.
