Dammiano in Maratea/PZ/Basilica

Postby esantin » 09 Oct 2015, 00:30

Dear all,

I'm looking for details of Giovanni Dammiano and his wife Teresa who emigrated to Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, around 1876.

All I know till now is that they were from Maratea/PZ/Italy, had a son called Nicola on October 8th 1873 in Italy (see https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-22114-37269-12?cc=1947686&wc=M6JB-2WL:246335801,246520801) and at least another daughter called Maria, probably born in Rio de Janeiro. This daughter married José Domingos Gomes on August 3rd 1895, in Sumidouro/RJ/Brazil.

Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Regards,
Edinei

Thank you very much for the marriage document, Marty. It's interesting to note that it states the marriage was between Dammiano & Dammiano, so probably the groom and bride were (close?) relatives.

I'll keep the research and, if I find something else related to this couple, I'll come back and post it here.

Thank you again,
Edinei

Hi again,

Only a small comment: It seems that the surname of the mother of Maria Teresa Dammiano is Fiorenzano, and not FiorenzaRo, since looking for the latter surname in Basilicata (using this website: http://italia.indettaglio.it/ita/cognomi/cognomi_basilicata.html) gives no results, while for the former it gives.

Yes, you are correct that the spelling of the surname of the bride's mother is Fiorenzano.
Here is the death act of Anna Maria Fiorenzano in 1890.
#32
Death on 27 February 1890 at 1:06 AM at the house in Borgata Massa.
Anna Maria was age 76, the daughter of deceased Biase [Fiorenzano] and of deceased Carminella Riziere(?)
She was the wife of Giuseppe Dammiano
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,246419901

Additional information from the marriage record that Marty :D posted:
Giuseppe Dammiano (bride's father) was a coppersmith [ramaio]
Banns of marriage were posted on 8 December on the door of the town office.

Quick correction to my above post...
The record is a publication of banns of marriage, not a marriage record.
The banns were posted on the 8th AND on the 15th of the month of December in 1872.

Here is the actual marriage record...
#62 - dated 19 December 1872

One additional comment:

According to the death act of Anna Maria Fiorenzano, she was born around 1814 (=1890-76). However, according to the birth act of her daughter Maria Teresa Dammiano, she was born around 1820 (=1844-24). Hence, there is a difference of ~6 years between the two documents.

I suppose the most accurate date is the one on the birth act of her daughter, since the person registering her death could have indicated a wrong age (let's say, the person indicated 76 years old instead of 70).

If some of you have a different thought on this subject, I would be happy knowing it.

Regards,
Edinei

According to the marriage record for Giuseppe Dammiano and Anna Maria Fiorenzano in 1837...
Giuseppe was age 18, son of Giovanni Dammiano and of Teresa Matteo/Maffeo(?)
Anna Maria was age 24, daughter of Biase Fiorenzano and of Carmina Ruggiero.
Marriage took place on 13 October 1837.

This record clears up her birth year as she would have had to present her birth act for the marriage. (1837-24=1813)
It also gives a clearer record of her mother's surname :D

Thank you for the replies, Marty and Tessa78.

I send attached a family tree with the ancestry of the couple Giovanni Dammiano & Maria Teresa Dammiano with the data I have collected so far.

Besides the son Nicola, as I mentioned in the first post, this couple had at least another daughter called Maria, probably born in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil.
