Postby Marlena » 22 Oct 2015, 23:20

Hello again, Can you please help me with the mothers name on this document for Rosalia? She died 24 Dec 1869, I think it Says Giuseppa ____ and Giuseppe Di Matteo. Does it mention her husbands name or her age?

thank you so much, Marlene

This is a birth record. Rosaria Di Matteo was born on Nov 24 1869. The mother's name is unreadable.

It looks like Giuseppa Triano to me. As far as I can tell, the record doesn't actually state when the baby was born. On 24 Nov a midwife walked in with a baby and said that she was born from such and such parents, but the record doesn't indicate when.

99,9% Troiano. As Pippo suggested.

I'm reading Giuseppa Fricano.

Actually, I saw Tricano, I just mistyped. I wasn't certain about the first letter, though, so I can understand why you'd think Fricano. Looking at it more closely, I can see the possibility that it's an "o" with one side being very faint, instead of a "c", but that would make it Trioano. Looking at the current frequency of these names, Troiano is common in many parts of Italy (outside Sicily), whereas Tricano and Trioano are only found in 1 comune each.

However, Fricano is very concentrated in Palermo province. Since this is in Palermo province, I 'd say Angela is correct.

You are very welcome, Marlene. Come back to this post and let us know what you find. (I'm "100%" sure that the surname is Fricone, it definitely starts with an "F". But shsh(ie quiet), this is between you and me  )
