Di Miceli Families from Gioiosa Marea, Messina, Sicily

Postby chcarey78 » 19 Nov 2015, 22:07

Hi,

I'm looking for information on the family of Anthony Miceli (or DiMiceli) of Gioiosa Marea, Messina. He died in 1897, I believe and was born around 1847 or so. His wife was Giovanna Calabrese. I thought I would try and see if the more experienced Italian genealogists on this site could give me a pointer or two on where to start.

Thanks

Charlie

Welcome to the forum, Charlie :-)

Here is the death act of Antonino Miceli in 1897
Record #48
Dated 31 May 1897 - died on 30 May 1897 at 1 PM at home at Contrada San Giorgio
Antonino Miceli, age 50, laborer born and residing in Gioiosa, son of deceased Giuseppe, a laborer; and of deceased Rosaria Villanti, a spinner.
Husband of Giovanna Calabrese.

There is a notation in the column, but I am unable to read it...
Hopefully, a second set of eyes  here at the forum will be able to :-)
I think it is speaking of Antonino's surname (and maybe Giovanna's surname).
I have searched for Antonino's birth act in Gioiosa from 1845 through 1848 and have not found him. :-(

Here is the document referenced in the margin.
It was dated 1911.

It is a correction to the death record, made by the Civil Court of Patti on 9 Mar 1911. Instead of reading "Antonino Miceli, husband of Giovanna Calabrese", the correction is: "Antonio Incognito aka Miceli, husband of Giovanna Incognito".

Thank you Marcello. Do you have any idea why it would say Incognito as a last name and also known as Miceli? Giovanna's maiden name was Calabrese. Is it possible she was remarried after his death to a man with the last name of Incognito? I'm confused.

Charlie :-)

You may find some of this earlier thread at the forum regarding the surname "Incognito" interesting...
