Caruso Family

Postby cdar1231 » 24 Nov 2015, 17:11

Friends,
First, thank you to all who are even willing to read this message which will likely be long.
Let me start with what i know for sure: My maternal great grandmother was Rose (Rosina) Caruso. She had at least one brother named Pasquale. I know this because i have a record of his having joined the Italian military (thank you to Marty!) and the record indicates the names of his parents which match the names of the parents on the death certificate of Rose: Pietro Caruso and Colonna Nappo.

Ancestry DNA has indicated that i am related to one Peter Caruso. Ancestry says that we are approximately 4-6 cousins, although i know that part may be off a bit.
Peter's grandfather was named Pasquale Caruso and married an Adelina Santorelli.
I had originally assumed that Rose's brother Pasquale and Peter's grandfather Pasquale were one and the same which would make Peter my 2nd cousin 1x removed.
However. I did a search on FamilySearch.com for a marriage record for Pasquale and Adelina. I found it but it indicates that Pasquale's parents were Luigi and Caterina Guerriere.

So my GUESS -- based on nothing at this point -- is that maybe Rose's father, Pietro, has a brother named Luigi who then also had a son named Pasquale.
I know i need to go back to Rose (my great grandmother) and start from there since that i know for sure. But i can't even find a birth certificate for her (she was born 5 June 1888 in Avella, Avellino, Campania, Italy). IF i were able to find a birth certificate, how do i find out if she had brothers or sisters? Since i don't know if they even exist, i certainly don't know their birth days or even years. If Rose's birth record had sufficient details, i might find more information on her dad, Pietro. ASSUMING the record DID have info on him, how do i then find out if HE had brothers?

Ok, this may be a real long shot but i appreciate any help! Thanks very much.

Maybe you should try the family history library films Registri dello stato civile di Avella (Avellino), 1809-1899. Births, marriages, banns, deaths, miscellaneous documents, 10-year indexes
This film if they were all born in Avella will give you the info you seek by searching the birth records using the same parents Pietro Caruso and of Colonna Nappo
