Ancestry . com Problems...

Post by mfjp »

Hi.

Just hours ago, I was able to log into a "New" and "Improved" Ancestry. com...

Now... I can't even save an image to my disk...

Nor does my window refresh when I hit the "search" button...

Is anyone else having any problems with the "New" and "Improved" Ancestry. com...??

Hi Maria,

Did you open the census and then click the "disk" button on the top right on the census? Then you have to save it to computer.

Let me know if you get it to work.

yes... just like always....

When I click the save diskette icon I get that pop-up window... which says

"Save image to Your computer (the image is saved to your hard drive) "

When I hit the OK button... I get no activity... and the pop-up window won't un-pop automatically like the way it did before... :?

Have you tried to download anything with the new and improved Ancestry?

Thanks for your reply

Hi Hero,

Yes... tons and tons of Massachusetts records from 1850 and back...

I like the idea of the Florida passenger lists from 1924 to 1948.. but who know when I 'll use them...

Obituary Collections and the SSDI#'s were also updated... and lots more...

Have you tried to download or save image to your computer recently??

Thanks for your reply...

Waves to you too... :P :P

Hi Maria,

Ans sending a wave to Jim. :D

Bring the image up on Ancestry. Then, click on the save button, click on save it to computer (hard drive).

Once the new pop-up comes up, give it a name and then click ok. Just remember what folder it was saved in.

I keep my in "my pictures" folder.

Let me know if this works,
hugs

I think I figured it out...

Waves, Trish, I haven't had any problems downloading records in months, as I am somewhat computer literate... and am always downloading files for people from the forum...

Safari... I used Safari to surf and download records from Ancestry with ease... as it automatically saves it as a .gif file... I use these gif files when creating links with ImageShack..

but not anymore...

BUT... :P Internet Explorer allows me to download files... :P only it saves them as a .x file... which is fine... just one more extra step for me to convert these files to other formats...

But still... would prefer to use Safari...

I know that Ancestry is still going through maintenance... and it gets better every few months...

Thanks guys, waving with 2 hands here...

Ok you guys have me reconsidering getting the whole database again. I was trying to cut corners and save a bit...but I have to admit I do miss all of the records I used to have access to. :(

Glad you got it sorted out Maria...

Just getting home from work and thought I'd see what's up........

I have a question regarding ancestry....I had looked at the site several

months back and was somewhat confused by the breakdown of paid

packages....I want it ALL..so how much is the cost??

Miss you all....

I think most all of it cost me about $200. I don't get the "World Family Tree" as it is a compilation of stuff already on the site. You can click on it and see what names are listed...often it is stuff you posted to their site and they are now charging you money to see them....also like paying for access to the LDS records.....not everything is accurate...

But I have everything else including the newpapers and the British records as well as the immigration stuff and the US census records. Have had most of it from the start and though I should also cut back because of the cost, I would miss it terribly if I didn't have it...so I justify it by not going out a lot to movies or dinner.... No matter when I go back there....despite people who complain about it....I always find something new. Have most of the Genealogy.com stuff as well...also since the beginning...had most of it longer. I think in American records, it is better for a lot of original source material.

But, you have to do what is good for you!

Have a great day.......

Thanks SG.......will check out genealogy.com as well. My Isp is offering
a special on Ancestry for half price, first thirty days for free. Something I will be checking into....time has become scarce, so trips to the library for free access to Ancestry aren't feasible any more. Don't think it's quite fair to have to pay for genealogy infos........but that's life.
