Help with Records from Old Churches of Palermo

Postby borgione » 05 Dec 2015, 08:38

Hi everyone,
I need help to continue my genealogy quest in Palermo.

Thanks to LDS records I was able to go back in time with my research 'till 1750... but I do now need records from old Palermo churches to make further progresses.
The two churches I'm looking help for are:

- S. Giovanni dei Tartari
- S. Antonio Abate

What I need to understand is where to retrieve parish records for above churches. Based on what I found online, church of "S. Giovanni dei Tartari" does no longer exists while "S. Antonio Abate" seems still active. Can you help providing more up-to-date information about existence of records for above churches ?

Thx,
Gaetano

You would have to contact the parish directly to inquire about the records.

Erudita,
great information provided, that's exactly what I needed ! I will try to contact the priest of both parishes, I'll cross my fingers for their reply :)

Adelfio,
really thank you for pointing out to the 1713 anime report in Palermo, but unfortunately I already checked that out and found no information related to my family.
The last name I'm looking for is "Bargione" and the timeframe I'm interested into is 1725-1775 since certain of their presence in S. Giovanni dei Tartari during that time. I got birth certificated from that church dated 1772 but now try to reconstruct how they actually moved around the city in prior years.

Found out that the only way to go is church records, but LDS database for that years don't help that much. It would be great to know if, alternatively to priest, you expert can recommend people in-town that could help for SPECIFIC search activities... that would be fantastic.
