Hi and welcome!
Scaria today is a Frazione (hamlet) of Lanzo d'Intelvi, Como Province
Back then it was a (very small) Comune
Ancestry has some record for Scaria online. I looked up and there is the birth record of Giovanni Egidio Lanfranconi, born May 31 1897.
The name of the parents are Corilla (or Carilla) Lanfranconi (maiden surname), daughter of Francesco, and Egidio Lanfranconi,
The birth was declared by a woman who assisted at the birth, because the father was away

Hi
Many thanks for your reply to my posting, your English is extremely good, it puts my Italian to shame. The information you have given me for my grandfather is wonderful and has added to my family tree on my grandfather side. My grandfather met my grandmother Florence Ann Arter in London in1915, she was a servant and he was working on a passenger liner as a ship steward. My mother Gladys Edna was born April 1926. He returned from a trip to New York and they were married in Kensington London on 28th June 1916. They had another girl Mary and a son Alfred. My grandfather continued to work as a ship steward until 1940and I lost track of him. I suppose the Second World War stopped passenger liners.
The only other record I have is a notice of his death on 13th October 1950 at Montreux, this was a notice of death I found in my father papers when he passed away.
Is Montreux in Italy?
Is it possible to find out if my grandfather had any bothers and sisters and other relations to add to my tree.
Thank you so much for the research you have carried out for me.
Ciao
Michael

Hi
Many thanks for all that information you so quickly found out about my grandfather brothers and sisters. It was quite a large family. I now presumably have many relations in Italy. My family tree has grown larger today and hopefully find out more.
Best wishes to you all

Hi Tessa78
Wow so much information you have provided me on my grandfather career on the passenger liners. Many many thanks I now know a lot more about him. It looks like he left my grandmother interally holding the baby! I wonder if he had a girl in every port. Anyway it appears that his last trip ended in New York on November 1949. Is there any information on him between Nov 1949 and his death in October 1950. I do not have his death certificate is it possible to get a copy? Sorry to ask all this but I am anovice of genealogy and you seem to be brilliant at it.
Best wishes

Hello Michael :-)

I have searched for a death certificate for your GF, but without success.

You say you have a "notice of his death" in Montreux in 1950. Can you post that image?

Hi Tessa
Thanks for message regard my grandfathers death certificate.
I attach, hopefully, a copy of a "notice of death" which I found I my parents papers when my father passed away. As I said this is the only record of his death I have and I am unable to translate the Italian. I have other papers which I believe concerns to his estate but that another story to unfold.
Hope this assists in tracking down a death certificate. Let me know if you received the attachment.

Best wishes

Michael

Ciao, Michael!

Yes, I received the attachment. What a handsome fellow your GF was!

I will continue to search for a possible death record.
Meanwhile, here is a quick translation of the prayer card.

"Upstanding citizen, a tireless worker for the simplicity of manners and kindness, he had many friends.
He died peacefully in Montreux in the faith of Christ, pointing the way to heaven.
O you who have known and have been witnesses of his grand modesty and his good heart, you who have had from him favors and aid, always remember in your prayers."

Under his photo it says that his "daughter, brothers, sister and all his relatives request prayers..."
Interesting that no wife is mentioned???

***EDIT TO ADD***

Here is the last manifest on which I find Egidio's name. HOWEVER, his line is crossed out and a stamp at the end reveals "Admitted to shore leave as long as ship in is port, not to exceed 29 days" The stamp reads Consulate Naples, Italy (some of the others are the page read: Barcelona, Spain; and Naples, Italy)

Maybe your GF left the ship in Naples, and did not return to service?
It would seem that he did not sail with the ship, but I am not sure.
Do you know if he DID sail and arrived in New York in May 1950?
His death was 5 months later :-(
And on the manifest it indicates that he signed on with the ship in November 1949, only 6 months prior, in Genoa.

He is on line 29
