Need help understanding what name means

Postby podpeople0127 » 08 Apr 2016, 00:52

Hello everyone:
I found birth and marriage certificates of some Rachellis , not from Trieste but from Mantova in Lombardy. I am not sure if we are related but I do have a question regarding something it says on these certificates.
It says " Giovanni di Dio Rachelli" or at least that's what it looks to me like.
What does" di Dio Rachelli" mean?
Thank you so much!

This is what I found.

Rachelle is a french name, meaning 'Lamb'
di Dio means of God
Lamb of God

could you either upload one of the records to the forum or, if the records are online, could you provide us with a link to at least one of the records, so that we can view the record? The concept "di Dio Racchelli" makes me think that the record was for an infant abandoned at an institution in the town which took in abandoned children, and that the name of the institution became associated with him in the records. The problem is that I can't find that such a facility with those words in its title ever existed in Mantova or in Lombardy.

I think "Giovanni di Dio" is a first name (I found it several times) which refers to a Portuguese saint:

to distinguish from other Giovanni saints ("Evangelista" or "Battista")
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi
