Question on the mothers names on birth records

Postby paulafl34 » 19 Apr 2016, 01:59

on many of the birth records i have seen it simply lists the mothers name , for example Emilia Federigi, on others it has a male name included like Filomena di Francesco Piedomnte, or Stella del Giuseppe Giamonni. What is the del and di and who are the mens names? Fathers?

yes. (I believe that it says Stella del fu Giuseppe, meaning that the father Giuseppe is dead)

Some towns include the father's name as a matter of course. Others only include the father's name when the family is numerous and there are several people in town with the same first name and surname.
