Francis Sanguinetti

Post by Paul »

I am looking for any information on a certain Francis (Francesco?) Sanguinetti. I am assuming the spelling is correct as I note, there are various spellings of the name. He was born abt 1844 in Genoa.
He was rumoured to have been a Cook on a ship, and on arrival in Sydney, Australia, jumped ship, and went gold prospecting.
Any information most grateful.

Hi Paul,
yes the correct spelling is Sanguinetti...
on a marriage record I found that his name was John Francis Sanguinetti, so I assume Giovanni Francesco Sanguinetti:

John Francis Sanginnetti

mentioned in the record of John Francis Sanginnetti and Emily Purthynia Williams

Name John Francis Sanginnetti
Spouse's Name Emily Purthynia Williams
Event Date 27 Jan 1883
Event Place , Tasmania, Australia

I am correct? It is your ancestor?
Best regards,
suanj

Hi Suan_j,
I too have a Francis Sanguinetti in my family tree.
What I do know is that he supposedly was a cook, and on a voyage to Australia, he jumped ship and stayed in Sydney, New South Wales. He married 24 December 1868.
From his Death certificate, I do know he was born in Genoa about 1844.

Is it possible to locate his Birth Certificate, and at what costs?

Kind Regards,

Paul

I have a ship "Aquila" arriving Sydney NSW Australia, 1860 with a crew member named -
Gio Batta Sanguinetti.
Can someone tell me what the translation of Gio Batta is, please?

Suanj,
Thank you for the translation.
This person Gio Batta Sanguinetti is the only person who fits the role of the person I am interested in.
I am wondering if his full name is Gio Batta Francesco Sanguinetti, and he dropped the Gio Batta name. From his Death Certificate, his age, occupation and length of time in Australia all fits together.

Thanks Paul, from what i read he was in Australia from 52 years, so arrived around 1854... but he was a boy around 1854... most probably he was a boy engaged on the ship.... travelling from Queensland to NSW and viceversa; and he was 25 old when married the first time so born between 1843 and 1844...
Genoa is the capital of Liguria region having the main port of area, so it was easy to say Genoa instead of right Commune of Birth, maybe just near Genoa or so... You know his parent's names? on the marriage certificates must be these data, almost on the first marriage record... it could be very helpful to know the father name and the mother first name and maiden name... another problem is the his first name... seeming used Francis more than John Francis...
Paul the name of your ancestor is popular in Liguria region, so it is necessary to collect how much info are possible to collect...
The next step is to find his marriage's records , hoping that in someone he stated his parent's names....
Best regards,
suanj
