Northern Italian ancestry records (Parma)

Postby tapeduzzi » 29 Apr 2016, 18:43

After searching ancestry, family search. and other sites I have not been able to get records that will help get my search past my great grandparents. I have their dates of birth but not the exact location of their birth only area of birth. Any recommendation on how to proceed? Teresa

My grandmother was Richilde Ferrari (1883-1968) and lists Branzone as her home. This is close to Valmozzola, Bercetto, Parma in Emilio Romagna. It seems that the documents in this rural area are housed in the churches and have not been digitalized. I see that you have quite a few Ferrari's in your tree and wondered if you could be of help to us. Her parents were Rosa Gatti and Ferdinando Ferrari. She had a brother and 3 sisters and the family immigrated to the US in the early 1900's and settled mostly in Western PA.
My grandfather was Giuseppe Pesci (1881-1949). His parents were Enrico Pesci (1860-1925) and Filomena Manfardelli. Ship manifest claim Bercetto as his place of residence. They came to the US in 1900 and settled in Western PA.

Did you use the microfilm records of Chiesa cattolica. San Giacomo Apostolo (Branzone from family history and search the marriage records Battesimi 1641-1765 Morti, matrimoni 1641-1775 Battesimi 1764-1806, 1780-1806, 1806-1839 Matrimoni 1806-1838 Battesimi 1839-1864 Matrimoni 1776-1799, 1838-1863, 1839-1910 film#1732207
Also the microfilms Registri dello stato civile di Berceto (Parma), 1806-1910

I am in the process of looking at that avenue. My problem is that I am not sure exactly where they were actually born. I think because they were farmers they lived out in the country and listed the closest larger town as their birthplace. I think this because on my grandmother Ferrari's ship manifest. She listed Branzone as her last residence but on all other documents she lists Valmozzola as her birthplace. That complicates where to look unless I order many microfilms. Any thoughts on that? Same with my grandfather Pesci who lists Bercetto as his last place of residence. I do not think that is where he was born but maybe a small village near there. Thank you for all of your suggestions and I will follow up on them. Teresa

Valmozzola church records are mixed in with Branzone church records.Chiesa cattolica. San Giacomo Apostolo (Branzone); Chiesa cattolica. San Siro (San Siro, Valmozzola)
The surnames of Pesci and Manfardelli are from Berceto

Many of the ancestry trees I have been seeing have the Pesci's coming from Solignano. How would I get a film from Solignano. My grandfather born in 1881 claimed to come from Berceto but he lived on a farm near there and most of the Pesci's I can find are not from Bercetto. His name was Guiseppe Pesci (1881) father was Enrico and Mother was Filomena Manferdelli. Guiseppe arrived in the US in Jan 1905. He had a brother Agostino (1887) Arrived in US in July 1905. I need a film to get my grandparent and their parent and siblings DOB and ggrandparents marriage certificate. Thank you for any light you can give this project. Teresa Peduzzi
