Post by antonio43 »

Hello,

I am of return on this forum.
I've received a letter from my town in italy, where I had ask for the place of immigration of my ancestor. It replies that on the register there's only the mention "America".
My ancestor is SAVINO Giuseppe, born toward 1884 in Acerenza, provincia of Potenza, in Basilicata. For thurfer in formation an din order not to charge the forum, caontact me in private.

Hi Antonio,

The Family History Center has microfilm for the town of Acerenza . You can order the film for about $3.50 a roll depending on your location. Here is the link for the film numbers.

Here is a link to find the nearest Family History Center.

Now there are several of us here that can possibly help look for the census record, however, we need to know where your ancestor settled in the USA. Can you answer the following questions for us? Where in the USA did he settle? What is his wife's name (the second wife)? Do you know any of the names of the children who were born in the USA and could be in the 1930 census?

Any tidbit of information that you can give us will help.

Have a good one.

Hello,

JOSEPH SAVINO, was born on July,21st 1884, he was son of Nicola SAVINO and Rosa LIPARI(LIPORI). He married first with VACCARO Maria-Caterina(who died on August 1918, but the husband is said to be going away in America). In Italy, he has had 4 children with her(2 are died as child), on the act of marriage of the 2 others children in 1926 and 1932, the father is said to be living in America.
And there's no trace of him, in another documents.

In Acerenza, he works as a paesano, in the campaign

I don't have no more inforamtions.sorry

I forget to say that apparently, but I'm not really sure, it's just a supposition, the husband SAVINO Giuseppe, seems not be in Acerenza when his wife died, because on the Parish act, I can read, that the wife is under the "authority" of the Priest. So It may be a pist?

Hello Antonio,

For sure that Giuseppe was in America before his wife died in 1918?

Did Giuseppe have any brothers or sisters who came to America?

If he was in America, what State do you think he would go to?

Can you view the census records from a library or Family History Center in Italy? You are in Italy correct? It does not cost money to see these at a Family History Center.

Did you research all the Ellis Island ship records for Giuseppe/Guiseppe Savino www.ellisisland.org ? or http://www.castlegarden.org/ or http://213.212.128.168/radici/ie/defaultie.htm

If there is a census record you want to see, tell me which one, and I will place it here at this forum.

Trish and suanj helped you very much.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The census "link" below was the one Trish found earlier. It is interesting because the name of Giuseppe's son is Nicholas (Nicola) and Rose. They are the same names as Giuseppe's parents.

In this record, the wife immigrated in 1918. This 1930 record shows that they were married for 8 years at this time. They got married around 1922.

It would be very time consuming to list all the Giuseppe Savino census records, and that is why you need to find a Family History Center that has a computer and internet access to Ancestry .com ... it is free.

Search here for a Family History Center near you.

Hi antonio, just an bit:
-you request in the Acerenza Municipality the death's act of VACCARO Maria Caterina(no the priest death act)? If no, you can request it? and also photocopy from original death registry.. perhaps are some USA place about Giuseppe Savino husband ...

Also, you can request the "Certificato Storico di residenza" from 1900 to 1918 of Savino Giuseppe; in this certificate are the residence years in Italy of Giuseppe, so it is very possible that are also when he emigrated and where emigrated....
for same cause, you can request also the photocopies from original birth registries of all childrens... could be that in someone was some phrase as " in assenza del padre residente in...." in absence of father resident in......
Also you can to write to all Savinos in Acerenza, because many times this is an winner trace.. perhaps Giuseppe wrote in Italy, someone can have some info for you....
many regards, suanj

Thanks you for all your help, but for the second wife i'm not really sure, because the man is said to be born in 1890, and my giuseppe is born in 1884
In answer to Suanj, i can say that : -I own the two act of death of the wife and there's no more inforamtions.
I own the Certificato Storico di residenza, but it's is written that he is living in Acerenza.
I've consultate in Acerenza all the ' act of born of the children , but htere's no other news.
In acerenza, ther's only a Savino, related with me, but she don't no more informations.
Nevertheless, on a photo of my great-Father of 1949, the mayor has written : Savino Nicola, born in 1910, son of the died Giuseppe. So we can suppose Savino Giuseppe is died before 1949 is died, not in Italy, i'm sure.

Here is all the inforamtions.
