Pesci ancestry

Post by tapeduzzi »

Through your assistance with identifying specific filmstrips I have found most of my grandmother's family (Ferrari and Gatti) from Branzone-Valmozzola. But my grandfather's family was not on the film. He lists Berceto as his last residence on the ship manifests. This is the information I have: Giuseppe Pesci 1881-1925, father is Enrico Pesci Abt. 1860-1925 and his mother Filomena Manferdelli, abt. 1860. He has a brother Agostino 1887 who come over in 1905 but I can't find what happened to him. I am looking for his family in Italy and Berceto is all the info on place that I have. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. My private e-mail is tapeduzzi@aol.com or here on the message board. Thank you, Teresa Peduzzi

Teresa,
Have you looked into films for Berceto?
FamilySearch has them, but they are not digitized.
Catalog for Berceto - Civil Registraiton:
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... %20Library
Film #1961518 has Nati 1867-1893.

There are also films with church records (1578-1928).

No I think that is exactly what I needed. I was not sure what film number to order. Thank you so much for your assistance. I am obviously new at the film ordering! Teresa

Is there another number that I need to order for the church records? There are several churches in Berceto and I do not have any specific info about exactly what Hamlet or commune ---- maybe I need to find his birth record first?? Teresa

Teresa,
I haven't ordered a film. I've been lucky enough to find my family's records digitized online. That said, you should be able to identity the films you need.
Go to FamilySearch, then select "Catalog" on the Search menu.
On the Search page, enter "Italy, Parma, Berceto" under "Place", and click Search.
You will see a link to Italy, Parma, Berceto - Church records (1)
Click the arrow on the left and you will see:
Registri ecclesiastici di Berceto (Parma), 1578-1928

Click the link, scroll down that page and you will see a laundry list of films. Click the film icon (on the right), and it will take you to an ordering page.
Good luck, have fun.

Teresa,

If you know the comune but not the parish of your ancestors, than you may be better off ordering the film of civil records first. You may find that the films contain more information than you expect.

The Church of LDS makes the films available to you for only a limited time. I was told 1 month and 3 months. I've had two rolls on loan for 4 months now, without asking for an extension. At my local FHC there are folks who've had their films for over a year. I guess it depends on who's volunteering at your local FHC.

I'm not sure if the parish is mentioned in the civil records, but if it is, then you will know which film to order next if you want to delve into the church records.

Marty, I think you were the one who gave me the film number that I am now studying and finding many members of my grandmothers (Ferrari and Gatti) family. That is why I returned to this site to ask about a specific film number or area for my grandfather Pesci. The ancestry tree you identified is my daughter Natalie's tree and we are working on it together. Thanks for help. Teresa Peduzzi
