Missing Italian Birth Record

Postby popacino » 16 Jul 2016, 21:46

All,
I have been working toward Italian citizenship through my Italian grandfather. Anthony/Antonio Carracino. I have searched many years of the scanned birth records from Celso, Pollica Italy and have found his parents marriage certificates as well as all siblings and one young siblings death. I have the ship manifest with him on it (Buenos Aires Sept 11,1903), the first census where he lived with his parents, and the next one where he lived with his new wife and family (my father was 8yo). I found his marriage and death certificates here in the US. He never naturalized and I have that certification as well. He did have a SS#. I have not yet embarked upon a church search in Celso Italy. He was definitely born in Celso, Pollica commune in 1893 or 1894. I don't think a pregnant woman traveled in 1890's when she was pregnant. Were adoptions common? How about name changes? I found two Eugenios, yet only one traveled to the US and I could not find a death certificate for one Eugenio. Perhaps my grandfather was given to our family to bring him to the US and his family ever came for him? Were records kept centrally outside of the commune? Is there precedent for a baptismal record Does anyone have an idea? Thanks, Bill.

Have you tried Familysearch.org. with all the information you already have, you should be able to find something on that website.

Can you post the link to the arrival manifest in 1903?

And... what is the mother's name?

EDIT TO ADD***

I located the ship manifest that you referenced. Buenos Aires arriving September 1903
On this manifest I found:
Filomena Palladino, 28, and her 5 children: Eugenio (10), Antonio (9), Eugenia (5), Antonia (3), Giuseppe (1)
They are going to husband/father - Gennaro Carracino.

In your inquiry you seem to be searching for a birth record - but are you looking for Antonio's or Eugenio's???

This is the link to the birth act of Eugenio Carracino, son of Gennaro Carracino and Filomena Palladino...
#7 in 1892

AND.. the birth act of another son named Eugenio Salvatore Pantaleo Carracino - born to the same couple in 1896
#62 - July 1896

FYI - the birth of the first Eugenio above was 30 October 1892 :-)

Like you, I have located the births of the other siblings...
And the death of Olinda Carracino (12 days old) in 1898)...
Have been checking Parte II records for possible "recognition" but there is no sign of Antonio Carracino in Pollica :-(
