Petrino (possible brother)?

Postby frankdamore » 24 Jul 2016, 03:50

Hey everyone,

I received a letter from one of our local churches here in Buffalo, after asking for information on my great-grandparents.

What I know:

My great-grandmother was Agnes Petrino (daughter of Pasquale Petrino and Frances DiGiacomo). I have her birth record from Buffalo, NY as well as the 1910 census that shows Pasquale. I am uncertain on his death, however, it would have to have been before 1915 as Frances shows as widowed. The Agnes of the first page of the letter is NOT my great-grandma though, FYI.

What I do not know:

Is there a way to see if Pasquale had a brother named Joseph/Giuseppe? The church sent me a letter of what they found and I've been trying to see if there is any relation between Joseph (abt 1864) and Pasquale (abt 1860). I have seen the birthplace on two different records showing San Fele, Basilicata.

I have a feeling they are related because before my aunt passed, she spoke of Corretores and that was the maiden name of one of Joseph's wives. I've searched for birth records for Pasquale and Joseph in Italy and haven't had much success (trying to link parents). Also searched for marriage records for Pasquales and F DiGiacomo. I do know that Josephs parents (per the attached letter) are Francesco Petrino and Angela Mangione.

I'm close, but if anyone could close the gap...it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

-Frank

I checked the birth records for 1860 in San Fele, but did not find Pasquale or Giuseppe...

However, I did find a Giuseppe in 1859, born to Francesco Petrino, 42, and to Margarita Mangione, 42.
Birth took place on 10 December 1859 at their home in Strada Fornello.

And a Pasquale (about 4-5 years older - which agrees with your post) ALSO born to Francesco Petrino and Margarita Mangione... in 1854.
#169 in San Fele
Appearing at the town office was Francesco Petrino, age 37 [son of Pietro] residing in San Fele, to present a male child who he declared was born to his wife, Margarita Mangione, 36, residing with her husband.
The child was born on 13 May 1854 at the home of the couple in Fornello.

This marriage act confirms the names of Pasquale's parents - and his approximate year of birth (about 1854-55) making the birth record I posted above the correct one :-) This also confirms that the Giuseppe Petrino born in 1859 above is Pasquale's brother! :-D

Marriage of Pasquale Petrino and Maria Francesca Di Giacomo in 1877 in San Fele
#51
Dated 29 April 1877
Groom: Pasquale Petrino, 22, farmer born in San Fele to Francesco [Petrino] and to Margherita Mangione, both residents of San Fele
Bride: Maria Francesca Di Giacomo, 16, farmer born in San Fele to Pasquale [Di Giacomo] and Maria Agnese Di Giacomo, both residents of San Fele.
Presented to the official was the certificate of the publication of the banns of marriage on 8 and 15 April of the current year.
Present were the parents of the spouses to give their consent.

Happy to help!

Based on Pasquale's birth act, you know that his grandfather was Pietro :-D
