Looking for missing Cacchione

Postby wolves_cacchione » 18 Sep 2016, 23:50

I'm looking for further details on Michele Cacchione. According to the 1911 England census he was living with his father Domenic and mother Marta in Wolverhampton. This is all I've been able to find of him but putting the name into Google brings up a match on a war memorial in London.

His brothers Anthony and Carl (Antonio and Carmeno) have medal rolls available at the national archives so there is a connection between the family and ww1. But Michele was born in Italy not Wolverhampton so I'm not sure how to check if this Michele on the London memorial or if Michele served in ww1 at all.

Michele appears in the 1911 census

I've been looking for his military details because findmypast are allowing their military records to be searched for free until Sunday (I have used other sites before).

I now suspect that the service record for Michele has been destroyed. I've found the service record and medal roll for his brother Carl (name spelt Caschione) and the medal roll for his brother called Anthony (name spelt Cacchione) but not the service record. The lack of service records for both brothers with the spelling 'Cacchione' leads me to believe it is more than a coincidence.

My current plan for finding more information on Michele is to look through newspapers of the era and try to find if his death was registered in the UK or Italy.

I can confirm the surname Leo for Martha as it appears on the birth certificate for Carl as:
Martola Cacchiono - formerly Lea

On Carl's marriage certificate the witnesses are also named Luigi and Rachel Leo.
(this marriage certificate is also how I found which church they attended leading me to the memorial with 'M Cacchione'

After searching every entry for 'cacchione' and a few misspellings on freebmd.org.uk it looks like the death of Michele was not registered in the UK (unless i'm missing something)
