Internet Browsers

Postby mfjp » 17 Nov 2005, 08:04

Last Monday, I could no longer type a Yahoo letter using Intern. Explorer... but yet I could receive mail.

Recently, Ancestry.com updated their database and I could no longer view census records like the way I could in the past... (I could though... but had to use 3 steps just to view a record...) and all so very time consuming...

Safari also has it's problems too...

Last evening I went http://www.download.com/ and downloaded Mozilla Firefox - an Internet Browser that I had never used before. It also offers better security. See here...
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/switch

I tell you.... what a difference... I can now view census records in a flash... I am back on Yahoo mail... with new silly but cute Emoticons, colour, fonts... spell check (which can be annoying at times) and just a whole new look. I know there are other features that I have yet to check out... but so far, I am really excited...

Using Dr. Steve Morse's site - browsing through "Firefox" is just terrific... the speed of the results is great too...

I did have a problem downloading Firefox from their website... and went to www.downloads.com instead. Downloading and setting it up was a breeze...

Improved speed and security... can't complain.

Maria,

My husband and son have been trying to get me to switch to firefox. But, I hate switching and figuring out how new things work on the computer. Guess I might have to try it.

I feel like I have a new computer... using Firefox... the pages come up so fast...

I hated the thought of switching too.. but now I wonder why I waited so long...

Hi Maria,

I should have posted this a long time ago. After I read this, I downloaded Firefox too, just to try it out. You're so right. What a difference! I get less junk to filter out and it's so much faster...

Thanks for posting it. :D

Now if I could just master imageshack....

Maybe you should post a thread on how to use that?

I have noticed some problems with Firefox and ItalianGenealogy.com, am I the only one?

Currently I use the Beta 2 preview of IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) which I like more than Firefox.

Like Firefox IE7 is faster and offers more security but best of all is the Tabbed Browsing feature which I think is better than Firefox.

What type of problems are you experienceing? I'm curious. The last few weeks I've noticed some strange things and I'm not sure if it's my computer or the program. :?

Thanks

@nuccia

I have problems with the selected prefered language. The frontpage of ItalianGenealog.com shows the articles in all available languages and when I go to the forum it switches over to the Brazilian Language.

@jcsm400

You can switch back to IE6 by downloading it here!

IE7 is a Beta 2 version so you can notice some problems. The few problems I noticed do not disturb me but it is good possible you use some features of IE6 which are not working 100% yet in IE7.

Sorry if I caused you a problem but I thought it was clear for everybody what it means to work with Beta versions of a program.

Let me know if you got IE6 working again!

Edmundo,

I am the most computer illiterate person around! Would not let me download IE6. Says running a newer version, so went and removed IE7 & still says the same, but I can hilite, copy & paste again!

THANKS,

jcsm400,

Aren't computers such fun? I sometimes do the strangest things with mine and can't fix them Then I have to system restore it to work when all else fails and it takes it back to the way it was before I started playing with it.

So, you're not alone! Hope this at least makes you feel better!

This is the best way to remove IE7

- go to the Add or Remove Programs list (via Control Panel)
- check the "Show Updates" box at the top
- scroll down to "Windows XP - Software Updates"
- remove IE7 and reboot your computer

Now you have back IE6.

Edmondo,

Thanks for the information. I must have removed IE7, 'cause it isn't on the list! Not sure why I still got "running newer version" after I removed IE7, but things seem to be working fine.

Have a GREAT AM/PM?
