CERAGIOLI

Postby Elvia » 05 Dec 2005, 15:11

Hi, I would like some help in finding where my grandfather Federico Ceragioli first travelled who wasfrom Lucca, I know he went America for 9 years then returned to Italy. I did look at Ellis Island itt only showed he went in 1923, it also states on that page he went in 1911 to 1920. Can you locate where he went during this period? I look forward to your reply.

HI......

There is a passenger record for him, arrivine on May 7, 1909. Again heading to New Castle, PA and the household of friend, Luigi Tardelli. It also states on this manifest, that Federico has been in the US prior. Cannot see the date clearly, but looks like 1900 to 1908. Look at the passenger records of similar spellings. There is a Federico listed as arriving in 1900 at the age of 17 (he would have been 14). This could be the original...traveling with cousins it appears. May have lied about his age.

In the 1910 census of New Castle, Lawerence, PA, ED 127 and Page 19a, Federico is listed as a border in the household of Louis Tardella. THis is where he was probably for his time here.

In the WWI registrations, he is indexed under the spelling of Fedviego Ceragioli, living at 518 Pearson St., NEw Castle, PA., born Aug 4, 1884, and working as a machinist helper at a Bronze Company.

Hope this helps...........

Hi everyone,
I just couldn't believe when I saw how much information was found, I had tried to figure where and what my grandfather did with his life in America. When I was very young my father Domenico had told me very little about his family in Lucca, because his mother Maria Elvira Brunicardi died when she was in her mid 30's, Dad would of been 10, leaving a family of four kids all being split up. His brother Andrea and himself living with his father Federico never remarried. My father's other brother and sister were twins and only being 2 years old when their mother died. The twins were his brother Silvano lived with an Uncle, who I don't known and his sister was put into orphanage but later returned to live with Federico. Dad had left for Australia for a better life but later returned to Italy when his father was ill. He also saw his brother Silvano who he really never knew. I am sorry that I had not asked more questions before my father died, only making things harder for me now, as there is no communication with my dad's family in Italy. Could you also help me with my dad's mother Maria Elvira Brunicardi, where is she originally from? I appreciate all you have done for me, I am just overwhelmed at the moment.
many thanks

According to the 1909 manifest, Fedirico's closest relative in Italy is his father Domenic from Pieve di Camaiore.

Camaiore info found here...
http://en.comuni-italiani.it/046/005/index.html

IF THE 1906 SHIP RECORD IS CORRECT......

The ship record of 1906 does mention that he would be joining a brother Eugenio in Newcastle.... and his last residence would be Calamini? I can't find further info on the town... It does look like Calamini... any opinions?

Brother Eugenio also paid for his ticket.

Does this add up?

If Maria Elvira travelled to the USA, we could find a boat record which would help us get further info...

In regards to Federico last residence I never heard of Calamini it may have been Camaiore. I don't know much about his family at all, as for the brother being called Eugenio, I am not familiar with the writing it could start with a G not E. His wife was Maria Elvira Brunicardi, I don't have much information her either but I was told she had many other sisters being a from a big family of 10 kids, she may have been called Elvira Maria. I don't know if she ever had been overseas but she did work as a maid in Italy. Sorry, I can't help more. I did write to Comune of Lucca recently. I don't know if or when I will get the information. I believe it is a long wait.

Doing an Ellis Island search, I couldn't find any records on the Brunicardi surname coming from Camaiore... many came from Bagni di Lucca.

It is about an hours drive...

Found this record of a Elvira Pardini who married a Pietro Ceragioli... not sure if this family is related to yours... but the name Elvira is what caught my interest.

My Father Sergio just passed away last year and I find myself doing a search after the fact as well. Elvia, we must be related. My Father was born in 1933 in Riva Trigoso (Genoa) and his Father was Fernando Ceragioli from Camaiore.
When I traveled to Italy in 1989 we visited my relatives in Camaiore which is in the mountains of the Tuscany region. I'm pretty sure that my Grandfather had at least one brother and I believe his name was Renzo. Fernando traveled to Riva Trigoso to work in the shipyard and this is where he met my Grandmother Velia. There has to be a connection.

My grandfather Federico Ceragioli had 3 brothers of what I know, but not of the name Fernando. They did originally come from Pieve di Camaiore. My grandfather had travelled to America later settled back in San Donato, Lucca, Tuscany. I have tried to find more information on my grandfather Federico in Italy about his ancestors, but have had not much success. I had written to Comune di Camaiore, but they stated they do not have any records of him there. So I am faced with a brickwall.

I do believe the Ceragioli families come from the Camaiore region. I would love to find out what the "Ceragioli" name means.

Elvia,

don't know if you have this documents for Domenico Ceragioli:

from the site:
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/record ... index.aspx

Title
CERAGIOLI Domenico born 30 March 1928 - Italian - under Australian Italian Assisted Passage Scheme
Series number
A2478 Control symbol
CERAGIOLI D Contents date range
1952 - 1965

Access status
Open Location
Canberra Barcode
1219772

there are 12 pages of papers for the immigration of Domenico, there are names and places listed, Certicates issued from the Comune of Lucca, maybe they may be helpful...

At the time of these documentation (1951) Domenico was living in San Donato, Lucca....
Domenico was born on March 30, 1928 in the town of Lucca, you may request an "Estratto per copia integrale dell'Atto di Nascita di Ceragioli Domenico, figlio di Federico e Maria Brunicardi nato il 30 marzo 1928 nel comune di Lucca" to the Comune of Lucca:

http://www.comune.lucca.it/flex/cm/page ... agina/1347

On the Document you'll find the birth places of Domenico's parents...

Folks,

My daughter's pediatrician in Chicago Heights, IL is a Ceragioli. First name Richard. Another family connection in the states, possibly?
