Carlone of Foggia

Postby SynThea » 11 Jan 2006, 02:02

Seeking parentage/spouse of Paolino (or variant spelling) Carlone, b. abt. 1880 in Foggia or nearby. Emigrated to Boston, MA area before 1910.

Wife's name was Mattea or something similar, surname unknown. Had daughter Giuseppina Maria, b. in Foggia, abt 1908.

Would appreciate any clues.

Have found (of 363 Carlones!)

Pulnio Carlone, age 29, married, Ellis Island arrival February 23, 1909 from Volturara Appula, Foggia. Believe this is the person I seek.

Wife believed to be Mattea Di Francesco, born abt 1880, of Foggia, daughter Josephine Mary, born November 24, 1908 in Foggia.

Family legend says wife & daughter emigrated later, perhaps between 1910 and 1915. No sign at Ellis.

Does anyone have access to Boston ports which might turn up these arrivals? They lived in Boston area until all three died (in the late 1940s and early 1950s.)

Thanks and best to all.

Here is the manifest you are talking about.

I need another set of eyes to check out the wife's name.

I believe this is Pulnio in the WWI Draft Cards.

Name: Pelino Carlone
City: Needham
County: Norfolk
State: Massachusetts
Birth Date: 13 Jul 1878
Race: White
Roll: 1684689
DraftBoard: 33

I did find a Mattea DiFrancesco but she was going to Michigan and there were two daughters. I'm sending the manifest via email.

Many, many thanks Trish and Riccardo for new sources to pursue!

Riccardo, I have unfortunately forgotten how to quote from an earlier message ... and got all tangled up trying to respond to Trish's response to me.

I went to LDS looking for Foggia records, and got the impression that there were only limited years available. Suspect will have much better luck pursuing Vulturara Appula data.

Trish, you are always amazing! Date of birth for Pelino is excellent new clue.

Have several family members working diligently to find historical documents to support this search, so maybe there will be more good news soon.
