Vinciguerra's in Limatola

Postby dunnbv » 23 Jan 2006, 08:51

I am searching for my father's family....he is a Vinciguerra...his dad's name was Biagio and came to the US in early 1900s. My dad's name was Anthony.
We know his family was from Naples area and we think he was from Limatola. Any help will be appreciated.

Additional information would help. What is Biagio's year of birth and where in the US did he settle? Name of wife?

This is just a guess, is it the right person?

Try this link for passengers from your grandfathers town. There is a manifest from an Antonio from there which lists Biagio as his brother arriving in 1910. It also lists a Vincenzo as his father (Perhaps your greatgrandfather)?

http://stevemorse.org/goulnik/match1.ph ... &dwpdone=1

First Name: Antonio
Last Name: Vinciguerra
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Limatola Benevento
Date of Arrival: May 24, 1910
Age at Arrival: 17y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Berlin
Port of Departure: Naples

Hope it helps!

Here is a manifest of a Biago Vinciguerra, though his birthdate would be about 1884. Father is also Vincenzo... so could be the brother of Antonio (see Nuccia's post above).

Wow ...this is sooo helpful...thank you so much. We are planning a trip to Limatola in April just to see it....I wonder if there is any way to find out if there are relatives still there?? I think that all this info is correct. I think Biagio came to America in about 1901...at about 17...my dad was born in 1912...so that makes sense. They also lived in Amsterdam, NY before they came to Schenectady. And since my dad's name was Anthony, I am sure he was named after Biagio's brother. I wish my dad were alive to tell me whether his grandfather was Vincenzo...I don't know that. This is so exciting...thank you again. If anyone has any idea how to find out if there is family still there...I would love that.

I know... :(

I also tried the other surname.... Cervera....and nothing... :(

That is why I suggested neighboring towns...

You probably know the area much better than I ...

www.stevemorse.org is a great site for searching Ellis Island ship records...

When you get your Vinciguerra results... you should see where most Vinciguerra's came from...

It could be that the majority of Vinciguerra's were originally from another town...? Something to look into.

Hi there,

If your family was originally from Limatola, the Family History Center has microfilm that you can order and rent for $5.75 a roll. Here are the film numbers, however, they are limited from 1809-1860.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

If you want any documents of your ancestors for after 1860, then you have to write to the town itself.

Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Limatola
Roma 1 (via)
82030 Limatola BN

Here is their website.
http://www.comune.limatola.bn.it/

Here is a link that will help you translate your letter into Italian.
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

Here is a list of Vinciguerra coming through Ellis Island.

Vinciguevea,Maria Giovanna Limatola, Benevento 1906 65 1841

Here is the WWI Draft Card of your Biago
Name: Biagio Vingiqueurro

State: New York
Birth Date: 3 Feb 1883
Race: White
Roll: 1818931

Someone suggested neighboring communities....is anyone familiar with Limatola 's neighboring communities....I could probably check a map...this seems like finding a needle in a haystack . Very disappointing...any suggestion on where I can go from here?

Just a word of encouragement....

Researching a persons family is rewarding, but don't think that it isn't work! This is why its called research. There's no easy answers, and you can't do it overnight. Sometimes it can take years depending on what you're actually looking for. You take what you have and what has been given to you and you begin to piece things together. Look at the little things that show up and try and follow a lead.

You've gotten alot of great info from the people here...but now you need to follow up on it and see what is valid. Asking questions is okay. That's what this forum is for. There's alot of experience out there and I learn something new everyday just reading other posts.

Don't get discouraged, get inspired instead!:) Just think. You have more information about your family today then you did last week, so already you've made progress.

It's up to you now how far you go. Good Luck!

Nuccia
