De Sio Family
Re: De Sio Family
Wow, excellent research. From the second page of the manifest, the uncle's name seems to include Alfonso. Could this be a link to Maria Castelluccio's husband (they were apparently married in 1912 and moved over there in the summer I believe...
It's very interesting to see the name Cascino come up again, and a possible connection to Castelluccio.
Another question, my cousin seems to think that Alfonso De Sio travelled back to Italy to pick up his in laws to go to the USA 1/21/1921 to New Yorkâ€â€

Re: De Sio Family
Hi Dann,
Well, I found this info. Not sure if you already have it but...
Alfonzo DeSio born 7 Dec 1885 married Mary Castelluccio born 8 Sep 1891. Alfonzo father's name is Felice. Their daughter Concetta De Sio married Joe Bolgna. Together, Joe and Concetta had children, Mary, Teresa, Joe and Dennis Bolgna.
Other children of Alfonzo and Mary were: Dominic, Anthony, John, Madeline, Mary, Teresa, Joseph and Felix.
Someone has recently expanded a family tree with this info and has included spouses and children for most of these people. I believe there are a few submitters, most with the last name De Sio...
Did you submit this?

Re: De Sio Family
Does anyone know where I could find the Carpathia manifests from New York to Naples (during the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912) containing Antonio De Sio's record?

Carmine CASCINO, 32 yrs old, born in Giffoni Valle Piana, Salerno
last residence Faiano, Salerno, relative in Italy - father Giovanni in Faiano,
going to join uncle (can't decipher name) in Reynoldsville (Jefferson) PA
wife Carmella CASTELLUCCIO, 23 yrs old, born in Giffoni Valle Piana, Salerno
son Guerino CASCINO, 2 yrs old, born in Giffoni Valle Piana, Salerno
daughter Antonetta CASCINO, 1 yr old, born in Giffoni Valle Piana, Salerno
I sent my cousin the abovermentioned information and she came back to me with this:
Carmella Castellluccio married a Herman CASEINO (could that be another case of people making their names sound more English??), after his death a man named Papilio, and after his death Frank Nicolo. I have a copy of her death announcement which says that she was born in Italy 1 February 1899 & died 3 January 1952 in Emporium, Pa. This lists Mrs. Alfonse DeSio as a sister.
That’s about all the information I haveâ€â€

Now, reading Italian is not my best asset, but I think it looks like Gerardo Caroferiso 37 Ave 8 Ave NY. I hope someone can give us a second opinion!DANN wrote:Hi,

Re: De Sio Family
Hi everybody,
After numerous interviews with family members this is some family history that I hope someone could find some records to confirm it.
Antonio De Sio was, by this time, married to his second wife (Anna Coralluzzo) and they both had several children. After the death (unknown cause) of his first wife, Amalia (surname: D'Amore? Cascino?), her property was passed down to her only son Alfonso (Amalia herself had been given this same house from her father - who, at the time, was still alive). The house was now lived in by Antonio, his new wife, his children and his father-in-law (Amalia's father).
After the Wall Street Crash (so from 1929 onwards), one of Amalia's brothers (first and surname unknown) became bankrupt in the U.S. and so decided to return to Italy to claim Amalia's house (as given to her from their father) for himself. When he was denied the property, he used a gun to raid the property. In the raid, he shot Antonio in the back and Alfonso (his nephew) JUST below the eye. He became a wanted man by the police, and I believe, died in the 50s or 60s after being run-over outside a cemetery.
Any newspaper sources or police records that may record this event, in Faiano or Montecorvino (around that area of Salerno) would be AMAZING! Any tiny scrap of info would mean so much to me!
Thank you deeply, in advance, to anyone who may be able to assist my search.
