Lucci, Ciucci and DiLario Family

Postby FLucci » 23 Feb 2006, 21:45

Hello all, I'm so happy I found this forum.

My name is Frederick Nazareth Lucci, Jr, my father is Sr., however he was born Elio Lucci and then his name was changed. My first cousin is Susan Lucci the TV actress.

I'm well versed in the LDS records and with family help I have pieced that my family comes from Tagliacozzo, Italy. I have records of of my Grand Father and his brothers and sisters. Here's where is gets strange. My Grand Father changed the family name from Ciucci to Lucci around 1920.

My cousin (77 yrs old) says my Great Grand Parents are Antonio and Angela Marie (I'm assuming last name Ciucci). I have her going through birth certificates and other records to see if they lived in a different town or what my Grand Mother's maiden name was.

Any idea on how to proceed finding out about my Great Grand Parents?

Also, my Grand Father Nazareno (Ciucci) Lucci traveled back to Italy to get his mother sometime around 1925-27 and family lore has it that he died and never came back. Do they have outbound ship records like the ones at Ellis Island?

Thank you all very much.

Ciao

Fred

Hi Fred,

Was really excited to read your post!

I had the good fortune of attending mass in Tagliacozzo... the view from the church balcony was absolutely breathtaking...
It was a trip I will never forget...

Don Gaetano Tantalo was born in my ancestral town, who became the Parish Priest of Tagliacozzo. A tree grows in Isreal in his honor for hiding and protecting a Jewish family (from Rome) during WW2. He died in 1947.

If there's anything I could look up for you feel free to ask...

I sent you a private message as well.

Maria

Map of Tagliacozzo

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?fo ... o&zipcode=

-----------------------------------

Just curious... How does the surname DiLario fit in?

(D'ilario Di Ilario.. + other variations...)

------------------------------------

Just wondering what American records you've researched from...

Were you able to locate a 1920 census record?

If not, we can look for one... there are great census hunters here at this forum.... it could help us with Rosaria's immigration info.

But we would need some details...

Were any children born in Italy?

Can you mention the names of Nazzareno's children...

You also mentioned Nazzareno's brothers and sisters... can you mention their names... I would like to look at their boat records...

The surname Ciucci is scattered throughout Central Italy... the ships record does say that his last residence was Tagliacozzo...

Finding a 1910 census record might be unlikely... since he arrived in early December.

Maria, :)

Are you a professional genealogy person?

"It would be nice if we could find Rosaria's ship record... "

How true this is, I'm going to call my Aunt today and see what she remembers, maybe she came via Boston or something? However, it is obvious she came after Nazareno so it's after Dec 1910.

"Just curious... How does the surname DiLario fit in?

(D'ilario Di Ilario.. + other variations...)"

My Grand Mother's name on my father's birth certificate is Rosario Di Lario. My aunt said she lived in the town next to my Grand Father and he walked there to court her.

"Were you able to locate a 1920 census record?"

No the only two programs I've used are the Familysearch.org and ellisisland.org. I don't believe I have access to the Census record. However, I'm planning on going to an LDS Family history center in CT soon. I believe they have microfilm, CD's etc.

"Were any children born in Italy?"

My aunt Mary was born in Italy as Fortunata Ciucci, names were changed later in the US. Her married name is Bianchini (but I may have that mispelled as I can't find her records in the social security system and she did collect her daughter told me so.

"Can you mention the names of Nazzareno's children..."

Fortunata (Mary) Born Ciucci ( I need b'day)
Rosina Born Ciucci (1914 US)
John Lucci
Victor Lucci (Susan Lucci's father the famous actress)
Anthony Lucci
Angelina Agnes Lucci
Frederick Nazareth Lucci (Born Elio - he's my DAD :D )
Florence Lucci

"You also mentioned Nazzareno's brothers and sisters... can you mention their names... I would like to look at their boat records..."

I have found Ellis Island records for these folks:
Giuseppe Ciucci 2/2/1896
Margherita Cuicci (last name spelled wrong - but I have no doubt it's her)

Catherine (Caterina?) Ciucci went to Chicago, I have found a record for her, but need to confirm our relatives names in Chicago to confirm it's the right woman.

There is another brother, it may be Achille Ciucci, I need to confirm that this week.

My aunt says one sister stayed in Italy, Carmela Ciucci.

In talking to Giuseppe Ciucci's daughter, my second cousin, she said our grand parents name were Antonio and Angela Marie. Of course I was so excited I forgot to ask if they were Ciucci's or Di Lario!

Maria, thank you so much for helping me - and that goes for anyone else who helps. God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Frederick Nazareth Lucci, Jr.

Hi Fred, looks like we posted at the same time... I was waiting to hear back from you... glad you replied!!

No... not a professional at all... only do this as a hobby... (graphic artist by trade)

My compassion for genealogy research might have changed had I gone professional... just happy to be part of this forum...

Thank you for your reply... now to review the info you posted!

I know that my grand father had his first daughter Fortunata Ciucci - the boys teased her about her name, since ciucci sounds like Jack Ass in Italian - My grand father was a carpenter and thought it would help his business if he changed his name and his daugher would be happy too! that's how my only living aunt says it is, and how fortunata's daughter says that what her mother told her.

Now here's the sticky part. My Grand Father Nazzareno (Ciucci) Lucci went back to Italy supposedly because he was sick and to get his mother. Well, the family says he died and never came back leaving Rosario (My grand mother) with 8 children. However, we all know things are not always like they tell you. Maybe, he left Grand Ma and abandoned them? How long did he live in Italy after going back? I know that Nazzareno had his last baby in 1926 time frame. So he went back to Italy then. But I'm not sure if he went to his home town or Napoli or where? Are there records of ships going to Italy? He was only between 36 and 38 years of age - pretty young to die.

Thank you so much for your help.

Fred

You are all incredible.

Whew!!

Maria D'Ilario Ciucci's father in Italy would be Giacinto Ilario

Page 2 of the manifest does confirm that Maria Ilario's husband is Nazzareno Ciucci...
------------------------------------------------------

Her father maybe??

First Name: Gracinto
Last Name: Ilario
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Cagliacozza, Italy
Date of Arrival: Jan 22, 1914
Age at Arrival: 61y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Cincinnati
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0018

Page one mentions that he leaves his brother Domenico in Tagliacozzo. So maybe his wife may have passed on by then...

BUT this manifest does indicate that he is still married...

Page 1 Giacinto Ilario

The real bonus is on page 2...

Section 18 of the manifest indicates that he would be joining his son "Ciucci"! in NY

Page 2 Giacinto Ilario

So from what I can see... The place of birth would be Tagliacozzo...
---------------------------------------------------

You had asked earlier if there are any ship records going to Italy.... that one can research from...

I wish...!!

But as far as I know, we don't have access to them... don't know if the ship lines had the rights to these... or whether the Italian immigration dept. has them....

Hi Fred, it is most probable that Nazzareno back in Tagliacozzo and that he died soon.. I think no true.. the addresse that ricbru provide you is very well for to search about the grave.. I personally think that you can ask in Tagliacozzo city hall some right certificates for to descover... you have the birthyear and this is most sufficient for all records, so you can ask the death certificate "certificato di morte" and you can descover when really he died...
the address is:
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Municipio di Tagliacozzo
67069 Tagliacozzo (AQ)
Italy
