Seek information on the Mottola family of Corleto Monforte

Postby parkerjpjr » 16 Mar 2006, 08:09

I am seeking information on the Luigi and Angelo Mottola families of Corleto Monforte, Italy. Angelo immigrated to the US in late 1800's and was in NY around 1910. Trying to help my daughter in law trace her family linage.

Hi parkerjpjr,

Are you looking for information on Italian or American relatives?
Here's a list of Mottola immigrants going through Ellis Island that might provide some clues. Remember to register a username and password although it is a free database site.

And here's a link for the telephone listings of the Mottala's still residing in Corleto.

Hope this helps some.

Hi There,

Do you have an approximate age for either Luigi or Angelo There are several in NY and it would help if we had more information so that we can make sure we have the right person.

Here is the address if you want to write for records.

Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Corleto Monforte
Via Umberto I

Angelo was born in 1876 and according to the 1930 US Census immigrated in 1907 with wife Rosie and one son.

All I have is what was in the 1930 census, and that is as state below. My daughter in law knows nothing about her family. Her father never left them any details and her mother and father were divorced. I found this information on my own in the 1930 census and cannot find anything else. My daughter remembered her mother telling her that he was from the Corleto Monforte area of Italy and she wrote that down on a piece of paper but due to the estrangement nothing else was provided.

Hi again,parkerjpjr,

As I mentioned, I found this manifest but I'd like to post to get others to view it and see if it's possible that this is your Rosa.

First Name: Rosa
Last Name: Capozzola
Ethnicity: Italian, South
Last Place of Residence: Corletolusaforte, Italy
Date of Arrival: Jun 16, 1912
Age at Arrival: 19y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: America
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0030

http://stevemorse.org/goulnik/match1.ph ... &dwpdone=1

This one also looks interesting.

First Name: Resina
Last Name: Capozzolo
Ethnicity: S. Italian
Last Place of Residence: Corleto Monforte
Date of Arrival: May 05, 1903
Age at Arrival: 22y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Trave
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0018
http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 2642170196

The immigrantion dates are different and there are some other discrepancies but hopefully we can get some different opinions here.

Hi Everyone,

For those of you trying to follow this post, here is the information for the 1930 Census. On this census, Angelo was born about 1876, Rosa was born about 1874. They were married about 1903 per this census. And they had a son named Charles that also came from Italy born about 1906. And the census also states they came in 1907 and were "aliens". Other children all born in New York are Louis (b. 1910), Pasty (b. 1912), Joseph (b. 1914)

Name: Angelo Mottola
Age: 54
Estimated birth year: abt 1876
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to head-of-house: Head
Spouse's Name: Rosie Mottola
Race: White
Home in 1930: Buena Vista, Atlantic, New Jersey
Image source: Year: 1930; Census Place: Buena Vista, Atlantic, New Jersey; Roll: 1309; Page: 9A; Enumeration District: 37; Image: 418.0.

Now if you know when Angelo or Rosa died, then you can write to the State of New Jersey for records. If they died before 1940 then you can write to the New Jersey State Archives.

This is the link for the New Jersey State Archives.
http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/links/archives.html

This is the link for New Jersey State Vital Records
http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/index.shtml

Also, here is another manifest for Angelo. Also, per the manifest that Ricbru provided and this one I'm providing, it states that Angelo was going to go see his brother, Rosario. These are all clues.

First Name: Angelo
Last Name: Mottola
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Corleto Monfone
Date of Arrival: Dec 05, 1904
Age at Arrival: 28y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Prinz Oskar
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0015

Here is the link for the manifest mentioned above.
http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 2595010335

I'm still trying to find the 1910 and 1920 census for them.

I hope this helps,
Trish
