Ship passenger lists

Post by joyse »

Hi
Does anyone know if there are ships records in Italy of passengers leaving the country in the 1850/1860's era?
I know there are records here of arrivals but I looked previously and could not find my elusive great grandfather, who must be still alive as I cannot find his death either!!!! did he ever exist I ask myself??

Joy

I believe I read on this forum somewhere that there is, but you need to know the port of departure. I don't know about access to them, easy or hard.

Posting mostly to hear the answer!

There is not an overall database such as Ellis Island, but there are some records of departures, quite few, and they seem to be targeted for a more specific area, such as this for example:

http://www.alfonsotoscano.it/AEC-1.htm

however, there is a database being added to, with a list of the towns that have chosen to provide info so far.......and hopefully this will continue to grow...... :D

hope this answers your question...

Thank you......... Now hopefully, crossing my fingers!!!!!!!
We will see databases such as these grow into an "Ellis Island"....
it would make our Italian research so much easier........

Thanks everyone. I will check these sites out.

The names I am looking for are my great grandfather Antony (Antonio?) Borrino (also called Brini) and his brother Serafina (not sure of spelling as varies each time!) Borrino.

Do not know where they came from.

Thanks again
