GIACOMO BORGO from Italy

Postby kepi » 19 Jun 2006, 14:47

Hello from Kepi!
Do you know tell me if BORGO GIACOMO, born in Arsiero Italy on 11may1880, arrived to USA and Colorado then by Ellis Island?Because I konow that he went to Silvertone in Colorado but I don't find in www.ellisisland.org his entry.

Then he died in Silverton on 03dec1915:is there a census in this town?
this person was the great grand father Borgo Giuseppe's brother.
i wait for your kind reply

Hi kepi,

This is a list of state censuses for Colorado that I found.

Colorado - 1861, 1866 (partial) and 1885

If you don't have a copy of his death certificate, here is a link to help obtain this record.

The Silverton district opened legally to miners in 1874, following the Brunot Treaty with the Utes. An estimated 2000 men moved into the region that year. They came from across the U.S., many parts of Europe and even China, to endure severe winters and dangerous mining conditions in their pursuit of the minerals they hoped would make them rich.

Not all who settled were miners. By 1875 the 100 “sturdy soulsâ€Â

Quoted from Trindad site:

I know that my g grandfather went to Usa and Colorado alone, his wife Caterina Lorenzini stayed in Arsiero . He was born in Arsiero in 1872 or 1873 .Then his brothers Abramo and Giovanni Battista went for meet him in Pennsylvania, where I believe he lived there also. He sayed to my father, when my father was child, that he went to Colorado for 1/2 years and he worked in a gold mine. With your help I am searching to find more and more informations about him .
I hope you can help me again
thanks very much kepi

Kepi,
With the birth years, the most likely person to be your grandfather from the list I gave you earlier are one of the two below.

Giuseppe Borgo 33, laborer, from Arsiero arrived 18 Jun 1904, going to his Brother-in-law Gio Ciaron at West Mooreland Claridge PA Box E25. (This person would have been born between 1870 and 1871)

Giuseppe Borgo 33, miner Arsiero arrived 12 Aug 1905, going to his friend Antonio Borgo in Claridge PA. (This person would have been born between 1871 and 1872)

Do you have any reason to think he may not have made more than one trip to the states? I must say, that I would think it very difficult to find much specific information on someone who was here such a very short amount of time.

When his brothers came over, they were going to the same community as both those listed above.

****G Btta Borgo 31, from Arsiero, arrived 25 Sep 1906, with his brother, Abram Borgo 17. They were going to their cousin, Gino: Borgo Box 404 Caridge PA.
