Meaning of Borgogna?

Postby Sal329 » 28 Jun 2006, 21:05

Hello everyone I am new here. I have been trying to just gather as much info on my family as I can. I know my grandfather came here from Procida in 1937. His cousins came here through Ellis Island. I found their records on Ellis Island.com That is the only info I can find. My grandfather is still alive and living back in Procida. Anyway I still can not find the meaning to my last name which is Borgogna. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you

You can read an explanation of the name derivation on page 112 of "Our Italian Surnames" by Prof. Joseph Fucilla. Basically it was a name given to a Bergundian, someone from the Burgundy region of France.
