CIVIZZO or CICIVIZZIO

Postby antonio43 » 18 Aug 2006, 18:49

Hello

Once again, I have a little service to ask you.

I have difficulty to trace the origin of my ancestor married toward 1830 in Basilicata. I don't know where he came from.

Is someone can see on the website ancestry.com, informations (place of origin, for instance) that can eventually help me about my ancestor.
The family name is CIVIZZO or CICIVIZZIO

Thanks

Thanks,

My ancestror get married toward 1830 in Basilicata and he died in Italy in 1859. On this two act ther's no indication of where he was born or came from.

On the website ancestry.COM, I saw that some people where called also CICIVIZZO or CICIVIZZIO or CIVIZZO. So I wanted to know if on this website you can trace this person and give me there place of birth. It would help maybe help me to found an area more small to find my ancestor.

I wish I'm clear enough.

Can you explain what a retranscript is?

Have you researched the names of the witness?

Hi Antonio,

There is a WWI draft card @ ancestry for a Cicivizzo, who was born in the province of Pottanza (Potenza?).......but remember, this is abt. 100 years after your ancestor!

I'm researching in Potenza, so will look for the surname(s). Please provide ancestor's 1st name.

Hello,

Maria, I 'm sorry but I live in France, and I have some problem with english, when I wrote "retranscript" it was because I had no other word, but I mean that I've read the act of marriage and death, and I totally wrote what it was written in the Church record. As far as the witnesses are concerned they are always from the family of the wife.

Jcsm, my family is also from Basilicata, we emigrated in the middle of 1950-1960 from Acerenza ( a town next to Potenza). The CICIVIZZO, I'm looking for was called Gerardo-Giuseppe; nevertheless Gerardo is a very common name in the area of Basilicata, since Saint Gerardo is the Diocese of Potenza. So, I think my ancestor is very probably originary from the province of Potenza or Matera. Besides, in Basilicata, previously they were little migrations from a town to another and often a family is well settled in only one town or a few, during centuries.
So it would be nice if you can said me if there's a more specific town written in this WWI draft card.
Thanks for your help.

Hello Antonio,

I guess because it was a church record... you were not able to get a photocopy... ? Only hand notes taken by yourself?

Don't worry, your english is fine! Actually, you write quite well!

Can you provide the names of the witnesses? You mentioned that the witnesses are from the family of the wife...

Do you think that your Gerardo was NOT from the town of his wife?

There are ways of figuring out what area people are from... but you may have provide ALL the names from the marriage and death retranscripts.

Maria :P

Maria, the witnesses are in the act of marriage and of death members of the Pugliese family (the family of the wife) they are all for secure originary from Acerenza, I found the act of Baptism of the wife there and I found them. My Gerardo was not from Acerenza because I've looking for his baptism act for a large period with no result.
