Geneology - fu Giacomo Gagliardi - Matera

Postby emilius » 19 Aug 2006, 23:30

Hello,
I am trying to locate the geneology of the above for my father. Is there an internet resource for us to access these records from Canada while online?

We do not have access to microfilms only the internet or mail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Emilius

Giacomo was born in 1901, Matera.
Wife: Angela Bianchi, born: Nov. 28, 1899, Matera.

I've read some posts regarding a database that some people appear to have access to. What is this database and is it publicly available?

Again, Thank you for your assistance.
E.

Hi Emilius, welcome to the forum...

What part of Canada are you from?

No one has access to microfilms by internet or mail...

If you tell us what town or city you are from we can set up a link with info for you...

Check this link out

www.familysearch.org

Here you can find a Family History Center in a location hopefully near you...

Ciao Maria!
Thank you for welcoming us :)
My Dad lives in Nova Scotia, near the Airport. I live in Edmonton.
What exactly does this link you set up entail? Are you saying that someone will look up my grandfather's history and place that info in here? Or do you find someone that has this information, who we then contact for these details?

Thanks for the quick response as I'm just here in Nova Scotia visiting.

Best,
E

Quick update:
I just tried the link you sent and there are no records that match. My dad is certain of the information that we posted. What is the next step?

What we can do here at this forum is look for American census records - tho Canadian records are limited...

We can also look for American military records, manifests, obits and other information...

If you are researching ancestors from the city of Matera, you can research from Microfilm

You are lucky... years to research from are very good... you may consider ordering film to research from...

Link to microfilm available City of Matera 1809 - 1925

To find a Family History Center in Nova Soctia please do search here....

Link to Family History Locations search

If a Family History Center to research from is not in his area, then he should call his Public Library... and have him ask where he can research using Family History Film...

Please do navigate this site for further info about film...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ibrary.asp

To search for ship records...

Link to Steve Morse Manifest search site....

We can certainly do an online search for you.. but some questions...

Do you know where they settled? USA or Canada?

Year of immigration...

What city settled in...

Name of children....

We can certainly look something up for you.. but we do need some more info...

Some of the forum researchers subscribe to a paid database site call Ancestry. com and do look ups for people...

If you can fill us in with more info .. we can certainly look for something...

Bianchi eh ???? Not the easiest name to research...

Maria

Hi Emilius,

I have several questions.

When you say from "Matera" are you referring to the town of Matera or the provinve of Matera?

Do you know the names of Giacomo Gagliardi? Angela Bianchi's parents?

Greetings jcsm!

Ok, first off, to clarify we are referring to Matera the city in Basilicata Province. Also, in relation to a question above, these people never came to Canada. They lived and died in Italy and thats the problem, all the records about these people will only exist in Matera.

Father of Giacomo is Francesco Gagliardi
Mother is unknown
Father of Angela Bianchi is Francesco Paulo Bianchi
Mother of Angela Bianchi is Maria Casamassima

Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

Thank you so much!
E.
